I have decided to assist in the collation of ALL New Order TV clips for a series of chronological DVD's.

I have already managed to get several clips into VOB files and onto a 250 gig External Hard Drive and plan to do more today. ( Thanks for the help Shug ).

As Shug has said we need to check the quality out to see who has the best for the definitive compilation.

If I can get all my stuff on my Hard Drive I could take it to Chez Shug on the moring of the Wembley Gig, In the mean time does either of you have excellent copies of the following;

Riverside Big World Cafe including 4th track Barny kissing Kylie BPI Awards

What have you started Shug !!!

Tell me about it matey! I dug out every video and DVD I have two weeks ago and I am nowhere near finished procedures. I have created an ex-el template for everything I have, which includes picture quality / sound quality / length etc...

It doesnae help when you have 8 copies of BWC and you have to go back through dvd's or vids you've already checked to see if this new version is better than the others!!!!

As for your list I have a near perfect BWC, as far as I know my Uncle John's copy of Dream Attack is STILL the only one that has ever surfaced (it misses the first couple of lines) I also have Riverside, it's a good copy but not great, I also have a good copy of the BPI awards and the Barney & Kylie awards presentation.

I should have collated all data for Christmas......maybe! ;)

On the plus side, between yourself, JT, Pete Petrou & Old Blue (possibly others as well who may want to help) we have every single performance in some state or another.

I've got a pretty good copy of the whole of what was aired of Dream Attack from BWC.Its on VHS though

edit; just watched it again.The intro and the first couple of lines from barney are missing although there is the "NEW ORDER" caption on screen at the start which would indicate its not missing much of what was actually aired.

But then the ending cuts off to bloody Rocastle! :angry: :nonono:

I got some clips of TV stuff, moslty what has been mentioned already but its all really good quality, hasnt seen VHS tape as far as I can tell.

Happy to send a copy for a 'definitive collection' collector.

Mike, will start sorting this week;

Riverside - No original copy so quality unlikely to be better than anyone elses

Big World Cafe including 4th track - I recorded this twice but don't remeber the 4th track being broadcast, will send sample this week for quality check.

Barny kissing Kylie - No, never seen it.

BPI Awards - Lifetime achievement award last year? Recorded direct to hard drive, will send copy this week.

I seem to recall Dream Attack from the tv gig being broadcast in a Big World Cafe special on the August bank holiday 1989,6 months after the other songs

That was on the 87 US tour at (I think) some British Industry bash in LA . ITN showed a brief clip of them performing and being presented to Chas and Di. Got the video recorder set up for the evening news and they'd dropped that particular item. :shrug:

I've rediscovered an old feature i have on tape(20-25 mins or so), some prog called APB.Barney being interviewed at the Granada tv set and Hooky riding around on his bike,Gillian & Steve in a car and loads of other stuff.When was that originally broadcast? what channel?

I've got a question - if a DVD from the shops is 6.2Gb, how can I copy it onto a 4.7Gb DVD-R?

Are there other blanks DVDs that are bigger?

Comercial DVD's have two layers of readable media lying one atop the other on the surface of the disc, each it read by a slightly different wavelength of laser light. You can certainly get Dual layer ( or DVD9 as it is sometimes called) and Dual layer burners, howver the dual layer media is deadly expensive.

What you are looking for is something like dvdshrink, the sole purpose of which is to re-encode a DVD9 to fit on a standard single layer DVD, should be available from most torrent sites :D

Another option would be to mae a rip of the DVD to a very high quality mpeg stream, and then add that to nero or whatever you use to make dvd's, and let that fucker worry about getting it onto a standard disc. ( you can even try trailing vob files from the original dvd into nero, but the results of this will be messy most likely.

The lad I bought this computer from has installed a DVD Shrink programme, if you send me the DVD I will sort it out for you

And Mike, yer DVD with all that stuff is complete, though fuck me if I can find that wee Planet Rock feature :nonono:

Shug/Mike,

I got a better version of Riverside 82 from a chick in Holland recently (an upgrade from Shugs version) but have moved house and misplaced the bastard! Will get it to you when retrived from one of the 200 boxes. Did you get a copy of my MTV 89-93 upgrade? All the features and Montreaux in excellent nick.
