The tree is damaging his property and posing a risk to others (walkway slabs). Since this tree is not part of the natural environment (planted by his city back in the 70s) its destruction will not cause the massive species extinction that Paul and Anne E warned us about so many years ago. Have a professional remove it and plant two trees on the property to replace it.

Thanks for all the advice.Someone mentioned in my original post that the destruction of the tree could perhaps give me more problems (somethng about the earth drying out,which could make the property unstable)Will probably prune the bloody tree right back to the trunk (can't be arsed to wait for the useless council to get around to doing it)However i might just give the fucker a severe flesh wound,just to teach it a lesson :evil4:

I'm not aware of any water issues, but one issue is that the roots are taking up space in the ground. When you get rid of the tree those roots will decompose, leaving spaces in the dirt that will eventually collapse on the hole. Depends on how big the tree is, how deep the roots are, and what the tree's around if this makes any difference. If it's only around sidewalk or lawn, I wouldn't worry about it. The only concern would be if large roots are under your foundation.
