I'm not denying that. I was questioning their fans. Every U2 fan i seem to talk to doesnt seem to like much else.
Well, the U2 fans you talk to must have a bad case of tunnel vision. I like lots of different music but my three favourite bands happen to be New Order, Pink Floyd and U2 - that doesn't mean I don't listen to lots of other stuff - BUT DEFINITELY NOT RAP.

Well, I don't like Rap, never will probably, but I also believe it was not meant for us neither 
, c'mon, seeing the type of music people like on this website, it's obvious hip-hop is far from your liking.
Of course, some rap songs had serious hooks in them, basically the chorus, because the rest of the song, where it's actually rapped, has simply no interest if you don't pay attention to the lyrics in song, like most of the people, like me, who grew up listening to english music without understanding a word of it, never pay attention to the lyrics.
I believe some bands did marvels by sampling old songs into their song, some songs I never knew actually and learned to love aftewards... but that's also the danger of it.
Believe me, I was shocked the first time I heard Super Freak and Under Pressure... I always assumed Can't Touch This and Ice Ice Baby were original songs... so when I heard the original versions I was shocked :p
But even when I knew the songs they sampled, some were good, example was PM Dawn and what they did to True by Spandau Ballet and another song I don't remember which.
So it's always touchy because I always felt that the element in hip-hop I enjoy are stolen from other songs I don't know, and I might look like an idiot for not knowing it.
Puff Daddy was the specialist in that actually, fortunatly it was evident at first... then he did "Come With Me" with some Led Zeppelin I wasn't aware of, and I really enjoyed that song. I also loved He Got Game from Public Enemy, but wasn't aware of the sampled song in it until I actually heard the original ;)
Recently, I can shamefully say I really enjoyed Eminem's Loose Yourself, that is, I believe, the last rap song I actually enjoyed. And I don't really like Eminem's material, except the use of Dido on Stan.
So go figure, I'll some day discover that Gangster's Paradise and Joy and Pain were sampled from songs I will evtually like, but meanwhile, I still believe these are complete original tracks :p
