Last yaer when I was in Tokyo I bought Mew's "...And The Glass Handled Kites" on the strenght of a few tracks I listened to on one of those listening post thingys in HMV. Since then it's grown into one of my favourite albums of all time. Quite grandiose and heavily produced a la Muse but still f**ing awesome

I searched out the album that came out before it, "Frengers" and it's almost as good. Why aint they massive? Why are they still opening for the likes of Kasabian? Why has nobody I've spoken to ever heard of them (except for Hibster)? And did anyone see them at V the other week?

Here's a video

FAO Hibster I have an amazing Sasha remix of Zookepers Boy if you want it.

I've heard of them. A friend slipped me a CD a while back. They're pretty good... different... not really "massive" material, though.

Yeah, I should've changed the thread to "not massive in the UK" cos they're big news in Europe and huge in Scandinavia (they're Danish by the way).

Don't know what "AMG" is but it's kinda accurate given that The Delgados and Mercury Rev are two of my all-time favourites also. In fact Mercury Rev is who Mew most sound like I think.

As for Coldplay and Radiohead

"Kites" got an excellent rating from AMG

Great album. I'm still trying to get past the odd time signatures and general proggy-ness of it but it's steadily growing on me.

The only "massive" "artists" here in the states are all crap so I'm not surprised no one has really caught on here.

I know Mew for at least 4 years now. Seen them in Roskilde twice (they are danish) and despite the fact that it was 1.00am or something it didn't change the fact that they're wicked! Was really hoping that they would play this year but unfortunately they didn't:banghead: Even if i mentioned that Veto (another danish band who is a copy of Radiohead, Verve and QOTSA) are great, i will say it again and again and again....That's why i love going to Roskilde, you can have a laugh watching Turbonegro or another death metal band but you can also find such beauties as Mew or Veto.

As for Mew, songs to download are: Am I Wry No Special The Zookeeper's Boy That Time on the Ledge City Voices Watch This Space Comforting Sounds Snow Brigade Behind the Drapes Shespider Chinaberry Tree Circuitry of the Wolf Why are you looking grave

and loads more!!!!

Go and get it!

Oh and Mew were supporting Elbow in UK, i've heard it on XFM Mcr.

Was there first:). If you'll get a chance to see them again, do so. I might even go with you:D

No doubt the chance will come. Whether I take that chance is a different question entirely.

Surely Elbow at Cohesion is more pressing?

I'll definitely take that chance.

After todays Summer of Music Festival in Warsaw (PSB, Stereo Mc's, Peaches!!!!!!, Maximo Park and loads more) i've got The Cult when i'm back in Manc Land and then Cohesion. Therefore the most pressing for me is Peaches, PSB, Stereo Mc's, The Cult (can't wait!)and then Cohesion. To be honest i've seen Doves twice, Elbow twice, BDB once so i won't have sleepless nights over it. But i'm still looking forward to it.
