does anyone else like these guys? just saw them in Chicago last weekend at the Touch and Go Festival and they destroyed.
What was amazing was their ability to craft fucking danceable songs with only conventional instruments, which proves that the best dance music (Chic, the Gap Band, A Certain Ratio, et al) is created without relying on any kind of synthesizers, sequenced beats, or electronics.
Does one of their songs go like this:
Chick Chick Chick Chick Chicken Lay a little egg for me

Dave, you sure they aren't using any electronics or sequencers, because one of the band members is credit as such:
90210 (guitar, percussion, bass, programming).
So if they aren't using any gadgetry, just what is it he's programming? A coffee maker, the VCR?

My personal belief is that I would much rather listen to (heck, maybe even dance to) Ferry Corsten, Shapeshifters, John Digweed and all of their collective electronics...
by the way, I did listen to all 3 of the offerings on !!!'s myspace site...I found them to be rather dull, a bit repetative, and not at all what I would really consider to be dance music...but hey, people dance to anything...sooooo...
Old School dance (disco),yeah NO-ONE was better than Chic.
Sasha & John Digweed are incredible live (they seem to make shit CDs?),but ive never heard of !!!.

I love these guys. And yes, I'm pretty sure they use some electronics in their songs, at least in the studio, though they could probably pull them off without such onstage. You sure there were no backing tapes or anything?

I'm curious about these guys, but not enough to go download their material. Even though I like a lot of the new disco-punk/post-punk revival bands, I'm a little worn out at the moment...
The only way to be successful in dance music live i think is to either live sequence (which is unheard of these days since Orbital split up), or to mash it up with live instruments/percussion etc.
Another band using all sorts of ancient keyboards n stuff onstage, and certainly no real evidence of backing tapes etc, is Hot Chip. They look like a bunch of geeks, and one of the seems to always look like he's shagging his keyboard, but the effect is excellent onstage.
I think a dance band can only be successful live if there is an air of unpredictability about them; i.e. no two shows the same.
pretty sure that they don't use any backing tapes on stage, there were about 8 of them on stage: 2 vocalists, 2 drummers, 3 guitarists and 1 guy who would PLAY keyboards, not trigger pre-recorded samples.

Great band ! A mix of punk, dance and experimental music leading to a sound which sometimes reminds me of P.I.L.
