Okay, who all has set up an account on myspace?

I'll be first. Set it up in a drunken haze, and kind of heisted a name that I really shouldn't have, but it's a little too late for that now!!!

Jeff's myspace

for those of you that have already added me, thanks!

and secondly, have we set up a group for those of us from NOOL?

i have an account, but i haven't looked at it or updated it in about a year (since i joined, actually). i don't even know what my screenname is, but i imagine it's the same one i use here.

nope. i don't even use my blog here.

the gf convinced me to start an account, but i never look at it. anyone who wishes to speak with me had best add me to their MSN messenger instead.

i tried to add you, but it said the e-mail i put in was incorrect (i used the one from your profile).

never mind. figured it out.

but i can't get it to play age of consent. it just says 'connecting...' and has been for the last ten minutes! how did you get your music to work?

never mind. i got another song to work.

Nah, NOOL would do for me.

Oddly enough I have 2 myspace accounts. one for me and one for SNSS. Neither has anything done to it ( though the SNSS one has a coupla tunes on it). the whole thing seems far too high maintainence for me, always having folks bugging you, and trying to work out each time someone wants to "be your friend" if they are a human, a bot, or an advertising type. So I pretty much ignore it.

Mind y0ou if anyone wants a couple of snss tunes, http://www.myspace.com/slightlynarrowsoundsystem

Actually, poor old RIANDOA is still awaiting a reply to his invite, therein lies the full extent of my shiteness.

EDIT: 2 points

  1. There is actually a crap picture of SNHQ(site B) accompanying each tune. It oughta dispell any myths I may have perpetuated regarding my posessing masses of kit, I think everything but the two semi retired samplers (an es32i, the tightwad's E3 and a Mirage deeply DEEPLY sexy wee fucker, digital sampling, analogue filters, makes "the orbital noise" at the drop of a hat, and arrived with a disk of DMX(or is it drumulator/sp12?) samples that MUST have come from thieves like us)
  2. Are any of the above mentioned "spaces" in any way amusing or riveting, lest I waste a mouseclick on delusional sexual meanderings involving synth pop artistes or endless accounts of how people on NOOL are all nasty and confusing. (I am aware that mine is blanker than dubya's brain, but it was A. somewhere to put tunes and B. too fuckin much stress to do owt with at the time I set it up)

Oh yeah, MySpace: Just like meeting your mate in the caff. What's wrong with going out and meeting random characters, instead of choosing people who never write back and use you to up their viewing figures/fanclub. You don't come across a one-eyed man carrying a dvd player and talking about Dad's Army on there. Rupert Murdoch, yuck.

What about LiveJournal? Everybody doesn't seem to care a damn about that website... Aren't they the same?

Anyway I'm hesitated to launch a myspace page of my own. I do need something where I can upload some pics instead sending it everytime to my friends... Though I have no strength to do anything these days, so bummy lately.

I must be extra lame. I have a myspace AND a livejournal.

My myspace

I have added to favourites and sent requests to all those who have replied on this thread with a link to their spaces so far, just because they're on NOOL. I use http://myspace.com/aneworderfan (in the few spare time I have) mainly to interact with bands (and their fans) who have pages on MySpace, starting with Gabrielles Wish of course. MySpace is an amazingly useful place for musicians, it cuts the distance between them and their audience, it helps to create communities around emerging bands, and to discover bands linked by them or by people who follow them. I like to see there's still good bands down there in the underground. I've been impressed by Azure Glow, for example. They don't do exactly the music I usually hear, but they're very powerful, good at doing emotional songs... I like to link to the profiles of those bands to help them getting known. BUT (while I usually accept "friendship" requests unless the bands suck) I link on my page only to the bands I HONESTLY like, so wether you can disagree with my taste, you'll know I link to them because I really like them and I think you should hear them. The MySpace blog sucks but has the best support for streaming media files, so I use it to stream audio and video, taking codes from sites that claim to be legal, I'm a bit suspicious about them, but I keep an eye closed for the sake of promoting good audio and video of bands I'd like people to hear. If you want a real blog, LiveJournal sucks, WordPress is probably the most full featured but it's quite slow, overall the best is BloggerBeta, if you hack the template a bit (I link to blogs which can help you with that), it can become almost an online content manager like WordPress. As for posting images, Photobucket.com is probably the best.

You must be kidding. The very most of the contents on streaming media sites like YouTube and MySpace is copyrighted. Record companies are starting to complain even about this, but they just show all their idiocy. Sharing a good quality file for download is one thing, streaming it from a web page is another. I stream "copyrighted" material from MySpace too, the sites where I find the codes claim it to be legal, I don't know... I just know it's crazy to forbid even streaming media files. Do they really think we're just going to use Flickr to show our holidays pictures, YouTube to show our holidays video clips and MySpace to stream our yawns? What's wrong with making people hear stuff they might like and buy? BTW does anyone have problems logging in today?

Is it just cynical ol' me or does anyone else get the impression that Myspace is snowed under by wankers clamouring to get the longest friends' lists or the most high profile friends on their list? Full of people leaving vacuous comments about their largely uninteresting lives? There's a reason the world has editors and publishers.

:\pimp3:

That might be true for a lot of people on myspace.

I use it more to keep in touch with the friends that I left behind when I moved 3000 miles away from Southern California. It is easier to send them a message or host pictures on myspace then trying to time phone calls with a timezone that has a 3 hour difference then the one you are in.

Mixed replies: Depth Charge: what you say is half true. Check the other half of MySpace. I've discovered a couple of good bands and not all the people are there to keep depressing diaries.

Animadversion AKA Rileyfirefly: thanks to you because when I checked your profile I discovered Project Playlist where you can search tracks, other users' playlists, and build one of your own. I'm pretty proud of my first one. Check it on my profile featuring the best music ever made in all ages and genres: New Order, Pixies, Depeche Mode, Smiths, Prefab Sprout, Happy Mondays, Velvet Underground, Steely Dan, Stooges, Bjork, My Bloody Valentine and Mew. If anyone of you makes a profile on Project Playlist please post the link here as you're doing with MySpace.

6217: You might try pasting the code YouTube provides for posting each video on sites. HTML usually works. Actually, MySpace, as simple as it is, has the best rendering of embedded HTML players, when compared to Blogger or other sites.

Starknight Sunshine: I sincerly hope Gillian never sees your profile ;) You must have the only one profile on the whole web with Tasty Fish streaming... great song though.
