Just nipping home now, on my way I'm getting crumpets and some Lurpak slightly salted butter (not spreadable, the real stuff). Crumpets will be nicely toasted and then cooled a little so the butter doesn't melt but softens nicely. Lovely mug of freshly brewed coffee from the hob to go with it.

What's your preference for a friday snack after a hard week at work?

PS Oatcakes there for you Frads.

Sometimes a nice bit of cheese with biscuits, sometimes a massive combination of drink and drugs. Just depends on the mood I'm in and what sort of a day I've got on Saturday. Oh, and how many broken ribs I've got.

So probably stick to cheese tonight :thumb:

What JT doesn't realise is that I got home before him today (for a change) and I've just eaten up the crumpets

That was indeed the first thing that went through my head as soon as I saw the title.

Cheese on toast ... and now this.

Does anyone here need the recipe for sandwiches?

Honestly, it's not too much bother. Or is that a bit too la-di-da poncey Southern for you?!

Triple Vodka and Grapefruit (in a pint glass thank you very much). After 4 or so of those I stumble down the street and get sushi.

Pass out until 7:30am the next morning when I return to the pub to watch whatever the early match is.

I fear a pie would be well beyond your culinary expertise, JT.

Start with a sandwich first, work your way up.

Oatcakes, natch. God's own snack. Can you get 'em up in the so-called "York-shire", James?

You are having a laugh, aren't you?

Us lot LOVE pies. Staple diet here in Aberdeen (although deep-fried, of course) and the same in Manchester.

London only has "pie" - one type. We've got millions - all different fillings and types of pastry to make puddings and pasties.

Poor southerners don't even know what a steak pudding is!

And the Scots have the macaroni pie! Fucking magic.

Fact: the filling in a macaroni pie can permanently stain any type of leather. I've got the Adidas Trim Tabs to prove it!

Yes, Tesco's stock them. Quite partial to them grilled with a bit of melted cheese on top. What is the traditional dressing?

Just in case any foreign readers are puzzled, the following is pie and mash, food London style.

To quote the King of the North.

Garlic ... bread?!

We gave up on shite like that two decades ago.

You'll be getting Berni Inns next.

Pah!

You may have mayonaise and ketchup, but I bet you'd be sick if anyone suggested mixing them together for the latest thousand island dressing.

But then again, the prawn cocktail probably hasn't made it down your way yet!

Dressing?!? You FILL 'em, JT: like tortillas, only better.

But cheese (or "chayze" if you're from Stoke) is the authentic filling. Plus bacon if you're middle-class.

Don't recognise them from the oatcakes in Aberdeen - they're like biscuits which you eat with stovies.

"Scottish oatcakes".

It's blasphemy of the worst kind, like walking into a mosque with a carboard cutout of the Prophet sucking Christ's cock while getting fucked in the arse by Bhudda and Bill Gates AT THE SAME TIME.

I feel quite strongly about this.

Parmo is the local dish here... A breaded pork or chicken escolop, topped with bechimel sauce and cheese, seved with chips and salad.Very popular indeed, but noticably and shamefully absent from pizza shop menus outside the area:nono:
