I probably had one of the worst week of my life this week, I won't get into details, but it could seriously have been worst.

My wife almost died today, she was driving to work on the highway just next to my house going to Montreal when an overpass collapsed:

She was about 10 cars from the scene when it happened, so, as stupid as it might seem.. if I hadn't kissed her goodbye, she would have been under it and still be there as we speak.

It's seriously just beside my house, I go on that overpass all the time... incredible.

I went outside and took a few pictures from another overpass done for bikes and walking people:

And video:

What a day.

Nic, I just noticed you started a thread yourself. You can go ahead and get rid of mine.

I'm glad to hear that you and yours are alright. You live in one dangerous city. Your wife got lucky but it really doesn't sound good for some other people. After the one six years ago, you would have thought that the province and city would have made sure that it didn't happen again. This is too much of a coincidence. Either something is wrong with their construction or maintenance. Like I said in the other thread, I won't be visiting you anytime soon.

Actually it's a few seconds.. she saw it collapse..

Apparently there are still, 6 hours later, 2 cars and a motorcycle under everything... so I guess at least 3 people died.

what can I say. consider it a stroke of luck that she didn't leave home just a little earlier.

I read that there were reports of chunks falling off an hour before it collapsed and that a crew had been there to collect debris. I don't know what kind of lawsuits they had in 2000, but this smacks of negligence. The overpass in 2000 had been under construction and I believe they put the blame on the company. Where exactly was that one? It was over the 15 but I can't remember how north. I also remember that it was the day of the Grand Prix.

I know for you that no matter where it happens in Laval, it's freaky scary. I've only been to Laval a couple of times, but I've been through Laval many times to go skiing or to get to Mirabel usually on the 13 or 15. I remember thinking in 2000 that I must have gone under the collapsed overpass many times. People are now gonna go around worrying that the sky is going to fall.

Well, in 2000 (people who have been here then will remember), I was also then living next to where the other overpass collapsed.

But it was different... it was in construction... this time it wasn't.

What the hell was that noise? I need to go back to the TV...

I heard a damned chopper all day!

Glad to hear your wife is ok. That sure was the Perfect Kiss...amazing how such a little thing can make such a big difference. Condolances on the ones that fell victim to the bridge...not the way I would want to go.

How awful. But good for you and your wife. Very very good. Yes, perfect.

Hope you are both feeling okay too. Near misses can fuck with your head for a while.

One of the local news stations here lead off with that story, gotta say my I raised my eyebrows when I saw Laval, Quebec on the screen.

Great news to hear that your wife is okay Nick, my sympathies to those who aren't
