I just got off the phone with Ticketmaster in the UK to arrange picking up my tickets for Wembley at the box office instead of having them mailed. A young lady name Alex assisted me with that, and she had a strong accent.
I pick up accents very quickly and having developed a sort of affected British singing style over the years I had to concentrate on using my normal speaking voice while talking to her.
I'm going to embarrass myself on this trip, I just know it.
Yer not wrong....
I'm a little bit ear-buggered from too much loud music. I also possess an accent which, when unmodulated, is incomprehensible to anyone living more than 5 miles from me house.
Suddenly I'm in the middle of a room, a noisey one at that, with folks from one end of the British Isles to the other, and beyond. Having to go from talkin to some broad voiced Northerner, to some broadBAND gobbed southerner and back is a BUGGER to keep up with. And of course, all the time, trying to sound like that cunt off Cold Feet so anyone has half a chance of working out what I'm on about.....I have to remember for instance that "power" has a W in it, and is not pronounced the same way as the thing you aim for in golf. Mind you, someone's robbed the letter R from most English regional accents so I don't feel too bad.
Right...we need to open LinguaNOOL, where we can all learn to speak BBC English.
After me ladies and gents...
