Is there a Dr in the forum, I've broke my party bone

Seriously, I am not about to go to my GP and say "Dr, I don't seem to be able to drink my own body weight in alcohol, neck enough drugs to stun a rhino and stay up all night arguing about whether 12dB/+ve or 24db/+ve filters are better...like I used to be".

As you are no doubt painfully aware ( some of you anyway), I was off work for a coupla years with a nasty disease thingy. Now it's not buggered off, but it's much improved and I'm back at work, and coping. In fact, those of you who read my drivel have probably noticed I am not QUITE so irrational and downright narky recently. But, why can I not hack the pace?

Monday was a nightmare. I was perfectly OK, until I had been in the pub about 45 mins, then just DRAINED. And it's not een like the journey from Bangor to Bournemouth had been hard, I had really enjoyed it. I ended up in my hotel the whole bloody time, staring at the ceiling or sleeping fitfully in 5 minute bursts.

I tend to get VERY excited about any concert, and tend not to eat. Could it be adrenalin doing me in cos I aint had any in my system for so long? Could it be the lack of food? I don't sleep well in strange beds and I don't sleep at all after concerts (was up for 3 days after The Orb in Shine in Belfast one night), so my tossing and trning all night after the gig is something I fear I must live with.

Don't laugh, well OK, laugh, take the piss if you must, but don't be nasty about it, please. I am really concerned that my 5 day mission to wembley and wolves will be horrible....5 days of sitting in my hotel, while people I really want to party with are just round the corner from me.

And before anyone says it, I am NOT a natural numpty, the phrase "Fuck me Campbell, are you still on the go?" has been heard at many a party at about 10am!!!!

Someone here must have gone from long term bed to trying to riot again.

Any advice? PLEASE?

I am thinking I should preload vitimins and sugars and fats so that even if I don't eat I will have fuel reserves, but apart from that I am at a loss.

Well, this is probably of no use to you, but had insomnia since I was 3, or at least since I can remember. Something like you mentioned, would trigger it, and it would take two weeks for me to go through a phase of 1-2 hours of sleep a night (if I was lucky). I became quite useless towards the end of the cycle, with all the sleep deprevation.

Tried sleeping pills once, but my roomate could not wake me, so he dressed me, and I went out to formation and fell asleep standing up....so I never tried sleeping pills again.

However, I met my wife. We sleep next to each other, and I have had only one episode in the last 8 years. So i guess my advice is find a good woman and settle down?

Talking out my ass, but for all that it's not worth, this was my story (and I'm stickin' to it!)

LOL...funny you should say that..... on my way from pub to hotel, I did indeed visit the vendors of the holy chicken. But the chips were shit, and I cold only force one bit of chicken into me, such was my state of pre-gig excitement.

They call chicken soup Jewish penicillan (because jewish mums can cure anything with it), I wonder if KFC works on fat Brits the same ;)

Works for some, I see. However, I have had several bust ups with numerous GF's because they would wake up and I wold have fucke off on them. because I didn;t want to wake with them? NO, because I'd been lying there for 5 hours awake LOL.

Like I say, works for some.

Not as sorry as me Mike, did Missy tell you of my shirt? It was amazing, walked through some sleepy English seaside town, ripping retinas from their sockets. Pretty sure hooky pissed himself when he seen it too....either that or someone nehind me was doing something even sillier.

A few E's, lines or even some LSD should sort you out. Penguins with white gloves on should take your mind off any fears.:thumb:

Well you know I trust in Penguins :D

I dunno, see the thought of being utterly crippled in a strange town doesn;t sit easy with me either :D I live 100M from every major pub and ( ) "club" in Bangor, and could still get lost on the way home ;)

As we get older our ability to metabolize substances and stay up late lessens considerably. Welcome to the old-timers club, mate!

I find that lately I've been pushing myself to go out and have a blast when in the past it was effortless. It's always worth it, though, even if the mornings after are worse... and fuck, they are.

BTW, I've always been partial to 4-pole rather than 2-pole filters myself. It's a matter of personal taste, though.

The thing is, I didn;t een get to try...one pint...ONE buggerin' pint...of Stella too! (when in Rome)

Rich (the other 50% of Slightlynarrow soundsystem) and I have been ejected from Parties before for ranting about filters. Another personal fave is "digital, why it's shite".

as a 32 year old who has partied his ass off for half his life, I have to say that my party bone is officially broken. I just cant hack it anymore. I'm almost about to swear off drinking altogether because it makes me feel like such shit the next day. Even after a few pints and a few glasses of whiskey, I'm still not feeling 100% the next day - and if I go to bed with a buzz, I might as well just stay awake and do something productive because it sure beats lying awake in bed for 8 hours straight. So yeah, things just arent working the way they used to. Good luck with it all.

I usually find if im out and start feeling the strain of the night, going to toilet and making myself vomit does the trick (although make sure the boozer has a machine with those throw away toothbrush kits that you chew!).

Also, pace yourself-dont go out and be hitting the JD & coke,or vodka and orange at 6pm! Have a few beers to warm up.

Remember when someone asks you what you want to drink, you can always pass!

I'm now officially on the wagon. And will be staying there. I am developing signs of an allergy to alcohol, which is a bit of a disaster really, so may as well give it up before it fucks me up too bad.

what are the symptoms of an alcohol allergy?

Steve, sounds like something mental rather than physical. Anxiety, perhaps – it is a daunting prospect I suppose.

Sometimes I can't keep my eyes open at work, then I leave and feel quite alert. I've even tried going back into the office, but I immediately feel tired and can't do anything. In fact, I could quite happily lie down and sleep under my desk now – I feel knackered. I know that in half an hour when I go out for lunch I’ll feel great.

If I have to stay, I can normally work through it – just ignore it and it goes away to some extent. So while I certainly wouldn’t recommend dropping acid, perhaps a couple of beers might have chilled you out and taken your mind off it.

I would certainly advise against overdoing it to get out of any anxiety situation – Dr Diamond recommends moderation at all times for an excellent time every time.
