I never get bored of watching it, barring personal taste I don't think there's much debate that it's among the best homegrown British films ever made.

It's got Kevin "wanking under a towel" Costner in it.
Most of it was utter bollocks which was completely at odds with the facts regarding JFK's assasination. Basically it's a complete fairy tale in regard to what actually happened and frighteningly misleading towards dimmer people who's entire perspective on the world comes from US movies.

It's in my list, because it's an engrossing film and the three hours fly by. IMHO.

I agree with you that The General is a top film. Wasn't it originally filmed in black and white? I have a double sided DVD somewhere with the B&W version on one side and an "artificially coloured" version on the other. Works best in B&W though.

It was shot and shown in cinemas as black and white. I have the VHS and it's still B&W. The colourised version was specifically for the Yanks.
The director, John Boorman, believed that the real Martin Cahill burgled him. That's why he has the scene with the gold record.
