It's a funny old thing isn't it? I've always had this ability to remember long numbers, bank accounts, mobile phone numbers, etc. I even remember every car registration my dad had, from being a nipper.
But I can't remember what I did last night.

I often find that not remembering what you did is a good thing.
so long as no one has a camera!
It does cause trouble though if you find out you have had a bust up with someone though....
because in their memory you will always be the one that was in the wrong and you can't remember to prove otherwise
I still have'nt got a clue what my mobile number is,and it's been the same one for the last 10 years!!!! I've only had half a dozen cars,but i'd struggle to tell you the make and model of them.
So yes,memory (or lack of it)is indeed a strange thing.

I've NEVER known my times tables. Any wonder i'm rubbish at Maths?
Can remember in the minutest detail things I was doing 20+ years ago, even down to the exact date.
Ain't gotta clue what I was up to a week back though.
Friends sometimes despair of me, cos I'll repeat the same question over and over, without genuinely knowing the answer each time. Short-term memory is absolutely shot.

I have an icredible good memory. I can remember things I did years ago, what I have said, what has been said... Too much memory in fact... I would like to forget some memories of some events but it remains like a engraved marble stone...
On the other hand, I am unable to remember anything with numbers... I cannot remember the number of my phone even if it is the same since 1999 !!! And I lost three credit cards in cash dispensiers for not remembering the good pin after the three trials !!!

when i was a kid i was a virtual phone book. i knew everyone's phone number and address. nowadays, with cell phones, there's no need to remember phone numbers so the only one i know is my own, which is quite embarassing and gets me into a bind if i'm stuck without my cell phone.

I forget I've told people things. Plenty of people on here will confirm that I can tell the same story ten or twenty times in an evening without realising that I'm doing it.
(Note, I plan to post exactly the same thing on this thread in a couple of hours time, and again this evening. £40 says I forget to do it.)

I'm not one who forgets whole nights from being too hammered drunk though..I always seem to remember everything in these cases...One of my best mates always forgets whole nights,good,bad or indifferent.
He dreads the phone ringing the next day...And I used to enjoy phoning him the following day,telling him he upset someone rock hard,who is going to knack him if he ever sees him again...He's on to me now though
I don't remember what I ate for lunch several days ago, but I can remember various odd incidents in my life from several years ago.
The joke in Japan is that a lot of people can't memorise their own mobile phone numbers....
I've memorised my mobile phone's e-mail address, but not the phone number on it!
Anyways, the human mind is an interesting thing indeed.

Your inability to remember the street "Candleriggs" despite being told it half a dozen times is a testament to that.
I can rember dates very clearly and anything numerical but I forget people's names almost the minute I get introduced to them. There's a dispatch company I deal with in Edinburgh on a daily basis, there's only two of them in the office, a bloke and a girl. I never ever ever remember the girls name despite speaking to her every day and actually meeting her on several ocassions. It's Stephanie, but for some reason it goes right out my head when she answers. That's where the generic "darling" greeting comes into it's own.

At some point prior to the pulling you must've exchanged names no? OK, I can mabye see a situation if you're just snogging in a club or summat but I can't imagine taking someone home having never even made an attempt to find out their name!
I'm shite with names mainly but I'm quite good at remembering computer usernames/passwords for work because I use about 10-15 daily. I also forget what the date is regularly but not the day. At my first few Viking meetups I was introduced to folk then 3 seconds later I'd completely forgotten their name. I felt quite guilty as it's obviously a bit rude but I didn't do it on purpose, honest!
I've also been in the awkward position of having pulled and not for the life of me remembered her name. One bird actually put me on the spot and screeched "you can't even remember my name can you?!" to which I had to own up.
Still up for it though pride clearly not an issue then
I find the best way to remember periods in my life clearly is to stick on an album I used to listen to at whichever point. Queen Is Dead for Standard Grades, Low-life for first USA trip, Get Ready for first Japan trip and first girlfriend etc. Ahhh all comes flooding back :D

Like a lot of people on here, my short-term memory is attrocious, especially remembering people's names...
There used to be an advert for a book in the Guardian, which went along the lines "Can't remember people's names?"... Thing is, I forgot to buy the bastard when the advert was out, and I can't find it anymore!
Oh, and I couldn't remember that street, either, Graeme - in fact, I've forgotten it already (despite the fact, that I've only just read this thread - should have quoted the text in the message)...
