You can't give it the whole "we're great, we're free, we vote" shite 24/7 then stick yer hands up and scream " we have no control over these monsters" every time they do something evil. Vote for someone else, well unless of course US democracy is a lie.

yeh just like you agree with everything your government does.

[Baldrick enters, wearing an apparatus on his head which is dangling a piece of cheese from the end of his nose. Edmund begins to speak about something, then notices.] Edmund: [calmly] Why have you got a piece of cheese tied to the end of your nose? Baldrick: To catch mice, My Lord -- I lie on the floor with my mouth open and hope they scurry in. Edmund: ...and do they? Baldrick: Not yet, My Lord. Edmund: Well, I'm not surprised -- your breath comes straight from Satan's bottom, Baldrick. The only sort of mouse you're going to catch is one without a nose. Baldrick: That's a pity, because the nose is the best bit on a mouse... Edmund: Any bit of a mouse would seem like luxury compared to what Percy and I must eat tonight. We are entertaining puritan vegetable folk, Balders; and that means no meat. Baldrick: In that case, I shall prepare my Turnip Surprise. Edmund: and the surprise is...? Baldrick: There's nothing else in it except the turnip. Edmund: So, in other words, the Turnip Surprise would be...a turnip. Baldrick: [realization] Oh yeah...

The people who rant about democracy and freedom are self-serving demagogues trying to invoke nationalist fervor. US democracy IS a lie when corporations and corrupt officials influence every election and bit of legislation that crosses the table. The American political system is full of shit...and being virtually restricted to a two-party system is much to blame. There's no one to vote for, that's the problem. Both parties are incompetent powermongers, but one of them happens to be much worse.

i just voted for every third party who ran. none of them won. just the dem's or the rep's.

america is not really a democracy because capitalism holds higher sway. when moral decision are made so that the most money is generated then there is a problem.

my government does not represent my ideals or my beliefs. the liberals are not liberal enough and the conservatives are not conservative enough. then you are given a choice of two schmucks who played greek pranks on each other in college.

no such thing as freedom here.

Can I say that even though I don't agree with the Bush administration, I'm proud to be an American?

Nope

Oh, come on Burt... Mom always told me: What I like about America is that you can speak your mind. Japan is a free country, but everybody follows the same way. If someone steps on your rights, fight back...

I'm proud to be an American, but I'm definitely not a Southerner... I need to get out of here someday...

Correction: Democracy and freedom are an idea. A thought as light as a whisper. There are many that try to crush it, and corruption is one....but I'll be damned if the idea dies on my watch.

So how do you feel about warrantless wiretaps? About dispensing with Habeas Corpus? About national ID? About expanded search and seizure? About voting machines that don't work, and votesr being intimidated in "certain" neighborhoods?

if your a terrorist i hope they have your phone tapped, i don't give a damn if my phone is tapped and i assume that it is. who believes that habeus corpus protects you? have you ever met a cop. they do what they want anyway. give me a ***-**-****. it depends on what they are looking for. my voting machine worked fine. in texas people who try to intimidate voters are likely to be shot.

Wire taps: Nothing new, and it's a red herring.

Habeus Corpus: It's called political strategy. Honestly, probably 80% of politicians have this as a possibility, they just haven't been caught yet. It's not set to a specific party...but corrupt politicians should be axed.

National ID: SSNs were promised never to be used for idetification purposes also. Mixed feelings. The ID has it's purpose, but has it's downside.....but so does everything in normal life.

Search / seizure: Another red herring

Voting Machines: With new technology you can only test once annually, of course there will be bugs. Not that concerned.

Corruption is what is evil and it lies on both party ends. There are good people on both ends. It's more important to identify the good people, from the corrupt.

Uh, you might want to look up habeas corpus....

Search / seizure: Another red herring

Expanding the government's search and seizure powers is a red herring in a discussion about "freedom and democaracy"?

Voting Machines: With new technology you can only test once annually, of course there will be bugs. Not that concerned.

"Not that concerned" about voting machines that don't work? About voting machines that can be hacked? About those "back doors"? About the lack of a paper trail?

Not to mention the disenfranchisement of voters in some neighborhoods, which you didn't address.

And you say you'll be damned if democracy dies on "your" watch....

Comrade,

So these are YOUR concerns with a Democrate veiwpoint. Some of them are real concerns we need to keep an eye on, but most are media/politically driven.
