Been listening to a lot of Discharge and Exploited lately. Must say I prefer them greatly over 77 punk. Faster, harder and more pissed off. Although they did look daft. See below.
Anyone like UK 82 punk stuff?

Sulking in the corner, that is proper punk.![]()
I liked The Exploited a lot in my punker years. They do look like everyone's bad stereotype though, don't they?
Never like third wave UK punk, nor much US hardcore sans the Dead Kennedys and a couple of other groups for a short while.
Once had a special place for a few Angelic Upstarts tracks, but weren't they tail-end second wave?
I started to get into Husker Du in 82 on the strength of his Peelship playing some of their stuff, and was also into the Dead Kennedys. My band at the time was much more punky than the doom and gloom we became, when nihilism got replaced by sixth-form angst poetry shite.....
The Exploited were one of the most racist bands i have ever seen.Made the mistake of going to see them in Bedford in about 81/82.Wattie spent most of the evening talking about kicking 'pakis'.If my memory serves me well, they also played a song about beating-up Mods.
The bass player(who i believe went by the name of fat John)never Knowingly hit a right note in his life.
In short they were a bag of shite.
The Exploited were pretty talentless if you ask me. as were most around that time in the uk. they were just a bad sound. loads of noise, indecipherable babble by Wattie and nothing else.
Killing Joke are the best punk band to come out of the UK. the best guitarist. best lyrics. best drummers. and yes. they ARE a punk band. and have always had punks following them. listen to Land of Milk and Honey, and Wardance, to name but two.
(but of course, I just listen to bands like "All Angels" now)
:) :) :)

There have been debates over whether they are racist or not. Who knows, as none of their songs mention racism, but Wattie's attitudes are questionable. Although he did write:
Mussolini was a fascist pig. Hitler was no better. Tojo was an imperialistic nip, but Stalin managed to go one better. 40 odd years ago, 40 odd years ago, before you and I were born. Chamberlain was our man of peace, but was fooled by a piece of paper. Churchill warned him long ago. He vowed to end Hitler's caper.

That was their guitar player (he briefly played in Nirvana). Gary was their bass player, and that tale wouldn't suprise me.![]()

What a band. They'd more technical ability than the rest and Biafra was a right sarcastic bastard. Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables is a classic album.
And Too Drunk To Fuck is awesome.![]()
No Owens it has to be "Let's Lynch The Landlord"
"Holiday in Cambodia" always makes me laugh
