Bands due a revival or two :drummer: — Forum Archive

It seems like a lot of bands go through cycles of neglect and obscurity before being "discovered" by the offspring from the first generation of fans having illicit sex at the gigs :evil4: , and we've seen that with JD/NO, The Doors, Velvet Underground, etc. (especially when the old bands reunite for "greatest hits" tours that serve only to line the coffers of the surviving heroin junkies on the payroll). But more often than not, it's nice to see a band that came and went leaving what seemed to be little other than sound and fury suddenly being admired again (like NO over the past five years) :nod:

So what bands or artists do you feel deserve a revival of interest? Can be from any time since the age of rock began, but I'm going to stick with a Eighties fave:

Squeeze - their 78-82 run contributed some great singles to the world of pop songwriting and almost survived the "new Lennon/McCartney" tagline. The band has long since broken up (so no danger of a dodgy "new" album), but it would be nice to see some sort of appreciation on a wide scale.

Anyway, Difford and Tillbrook et al., get my vote

Wire... peers of JD/NO... hella talented band that has never gotten their due except from critics. They have had TWO revivals, including new music 25 years after their start that sounds like half their ages. Wire deserves some respect, put them on some soundtracks or something, at least, time for people to start to leech off of Wire's coolness.

Public Enemy are the only essential rap/Hip Hop band on the plannet. Much better than the R&B (Rap & Bull****) 'gangsta (c)rap' that passes for Hip Hop now! Cheers!

What about the likes Leftfield and Orbital getting back together. They along with Underworld and the Chemical Brothers pushed the boundaries of Dance/Electronic music in the '90's and IMO we need some of this music back in the limelight as at the moment all the music industry is promoting to us at the moment is R&B/(c)Rap, Cheesey Dance, Nu-Metal w*** and pop-idol crap at the moment. More so get Darren Emerson back in Underworld and put together some banging 'Stadium Techno' rather than the soundtrack stuff like Breaking And Entering they've been doing at the moment - despite it being good Ambient music! Cheers!

I doubt Pagey, Plant, and John Paul Jones would re-form Zep. I am certain they have been offered lavish sums of money for the opportunity. I respect the guys more for not cashing in to be honest....

But yeah, congrats to Led Zep for realizing they died with John B. (as opposed to "2/4ths of the Who", who have the audacity to release a new album under that banner despite the very obvious disadvantage that it's really Townshend, Daltrey, and some backing musicians)

Would've liked to have seen Crowded House reform for a few gigs, they may not have been the edgiest band around (do we have to listen to cutting-edge stuff ALL the time?) but Neil Finn did come out with some amazing tunes. Unfortunately, the drummer hung himself a couple of years ago which put paid to any chance of that.

Aside from that and they haven't been away that long but I'm surprised no-one's mentioned James. I got into them through the Best Of and really enjoyed Millionaires & Pleased To Meet You and could easily do with another one of their albums just now.

But I think Tim Booth's gone all thespian and according to Boatraceface the rest are in Strangeways :lol: Ah well! Booth's solo record is apparently shite and only expensively available in Indie record shops so sod that!

Tim Booth is a cunt.

And everything he has done since James has been a miserable failure. In fact, his live sets now have about five or six James songs in them, and the fact that he still cant get more more than one hundred people (and sometimes a lot less!) shows how badly his career has bombed in the last five years.
