I know of sexier ones, I will try and remember the name of folks that build them for you. My mate has one and they rule, his is a 6 stringer and all :D
I'm saving up for a control surface for my PC (probably an edirol/m-audio UC33-e), and a laptop :D
Hair Extensions.
This robo-thingy
Nail Extensions
A globe jigsaw
Practically everything in Morgan/Jane Norman
Practially everything in Waterstones.
The judgement of what's what and who for is obvious to some...........however, I admit.......................
I did buy this ridiculous pair of shoes that I will probably never wear from Faith today...............oh they are to die for................they will probably kill me..........all straps, no give and take.............but to die for........................
ermm..........and £90
Fuck that, get hold of a certain Hot Too, let's face it, it ain't gonna get a lot of use in the near future! The amount of onboard electronics that beast has got on it, the sound is guaranteed amazing! Helps if you are the best bassist in the world of course..... ;)

Haha yeah when my band starts gigging I will most definitely be asking to borrow it!!! ![]()

Do those Eccleshall's really have clever electronics in em? I never even had them flagged as active never mind anything else.
BTW, new bassie finally arrived, and she ROCKS, loud as hell with the active, and set up very nicely too ( though the action's a wee bit higher than I would set it, it'll teach me to play better again)

i would say it looks more like a cello, what with it standing up and all. it definitely needs a bow, that instrument.
I'm currently deciding on an acoustic-electric bass or a cheap 5-string. Don't want to spend too much when I don't have a job at the moment though...

Do you just use it for practicing around the house? A lot of reviews I read say it's just for messing around on but it looks as though you need to splash out a bit for a decent one.
I suppose i'm asking for a mini-review here :)
Bass people (and Who fans for that matter) might like this vid

yeah it's great when you don't want to play through an amp all the time, cos to be honest playing an electric bass unplugged sucks the balls
acoustics are great i would definitely recommend you get one ![]()
loads of things you play all the time just sound well better

thanks Jack
thing is I was just reading some reviews... a $150-200 one gets really bad reviews and the next price level up is like $350, which has very good reviews. Big price difference though.
I've already got 2 electrics though so no rush.
i just clicked that link. it does look like an oboe or something that needs a bow. it'll certainly be different.

Erm, an oboe is a reed/wind intrument Ronno.
Upright basses are ALL designed for being played arco (with a bow),that's why the high bridge and dihedral neck angle, but that hasn't stopped people playing them Pizzicato (with fingers) practically from the year dot. Sounds like pish on a cello mind....and not to hot on a 3/4 scale student contrabass.....they're just not loud enough.
Hooky's well known basses, (for whosoever asked) are: The 6 string is a Shergold Marathon6. And the 4-string semis are Eccleshalls called I believe Hot and Hot-1. Hooky has sucessfully broken two necks on those, one while PLAYING!!!!!!!!!! He also uses a Yamaha (jack, what model?) but it's not been seen for a while ( tho I think he still records with it), a musicman stingray and a Rickenbacker copy (which fooled me for 20 years until he said it was a clone, cos it sounds exactly like a Rick as well as looking the part). There's a few others too, but those are the ones that you'll have seen.
Jack I will defo try to find out what me mate Tony's is, other than totally fucking gorgeous. BTW, last time I played an accoustic guitar shapped bass, it stripped my callouses off and left me with bleeding fingers in under an hour, I ended up finishing the gig using my 3rd finger on each hand to do everything...mind you it was strung with extra-heavies and had about 1cm action. These days if I need an accoustic bass, I ram the arse of my electric onto something big and wooden :D

It's Hot One and Hot Too now - David Sultan has the original Hot. The Yamaha is a BB1200 I think from memory. He also used a Gibson EB2 that kept howling on stage (the Eccleshalls were based on that shape but with a shedload of onboard stuff to prevent the feedback amongst other things). The Stingray was used in 93 on the Price of Love. The Ricky copy bit the dust in September 79 at the Factory when it sort of got entangled with a punter's head. The Marathon only comes out for KW1 and Blue Monday these days, more's the pity.
Hey, as long as we're doing bass porn......
Do stick around on that vid, it only gets really cookin bout half way through. Think that's his "Tenor" he's playing.
Loved the Enthwistle vid.....now if we can just get a solo track of Hooky from every NO gig :D
Oh.... Vic getting owned in a slap battle, by his bro...on a GUITAR!

Wooten is obviously insanely talented but some of that stuff goes over my head. At a certain point it stops being music and just seems flash and showing off. Not necessarily that vid, but others I've seen of him, I just feel put out by some of the stuff he does.
As I say, he's a monstrously talented bass player though.
