when my mother was a social worker in denver, one of her clients named her daughter VaGina (that's gina in the normal pronunciation). when my mother questioned her about the, erm, unusual name, the woman had no idea what was wrong with the name VaGina as she had never heard the name anywhere else before.

I feel so sorry for the guy. He should change his name, if he wants to. I know classmates with questionable surnames: Wyckoff and Bonar (pronounced Bo-NAR; however, an announcer on the school PA system said it really wrong at one point) come to mind.
