The Best of the Animals, courtesy of ABCKO Records. Bought it a few months before I got a CD player, good way to pressure your parents into getting one for you ![]()
So...what was your first CD? :skeptic:

The first CD i ever bought was a gift for my brother, The Verve - Lucky Man CD Single 2
The first CD of my own was London Calling
I bought two titles at the same time I purchased my first CD player...
Substance for me. Some George Michael CD for my girlfriend....
New Order - Substance 1987
It came in two separate jewelboxes instead of the double box it would later come in.
Low Life. P,C&L wasn't far behind. I was lucky to get them when I did because they are the original Factory CDs. Mastered by Nimbus. Not those Festival/CBS issues.
Depeche Mode - Violator
Bought it used the day I picked up the CD player.. I already have the tape.

Humor is fine, except not when it's violating the community guidelines.

You not got the album then Nicos?.. They were an early eighties fad, dodgy haircuts, slightly camp. Voted third best in the YMCA Music Awards (North West region) in 1981 ![]()
Have no idea exactly; but used to go to Reddingtons in Brum a lot in those days, so after the disappearance of the 12"s; it must have been a reggae compilation cd? ![]()

cause it had The Ramones, Replacements, James, Aztec Camera etc. on it......plus it was quite cheap upon its release.
first one... i actually bought Low-Life import CD before I even had a CD player, just to buy it
Actually had several because I got CDs and a CD player for Christmas when I was 10 years old. Got some dance music (I wish I had some taste back then, and not buy things that said "As Seen on TV") and my parents bought me classical music to make me smarter. Plus, I started to learn how to play the violin a year later.
Dance Music USA: Vol. 5 Dance Music USA: Vol. 4 Ultimate Dance Party 1997 The Idiot's Guide to Classical Music Famous Waltzes Greatest Classical Masterpieces (or a similar title) Vol. VI The Best of Bach The Best of Chopin Tchaikovsky
Dance music was the craze back then, so I don't blame myself for wanting those CDs. But classical music CDs to start off the collection? Ehhh...![]()
I'm sold some of my old CD's through Amazon Marketplace and have some more left. Also, anyone want Star Wars books?
It's ALRIGHT - The Pet SHop Boys CD Single.
Then 'Rainbow Warriors' - A Greenpeace album which was surprisingly good!

Fookin'ell Greenie...I picked that one up as well...wasn't it like 6 or 7 bucks???
I loved that damn CD...even if it did have Depish Mode on it!!!
True Faith and then Touched By The Hand Of God CD singles. Well over a year before I bought a CD player. I also bought New Order DATs and never bought a DAT player!
Im not even gonna try and look cool like a few others
.
The first one was probably something like a CD single of erasure. Who knows, its years ago.
mine was technique on original release - before i had a cd player!
also got the dat tape, not got a player for that yet though....
Low Life Factory original CD, some time before I owned a CD player. Took me a long while to start collecting CDs, Technique was my 3rd (after Songs To Learn And Sing). Vinyl was king for a very long time in my house, up until 1990 everything I bought was vinyl, then I backfilled with the CD versions of everything.
I actually got a cd player ( stuffed in the bottom of a hifi) before I owned any CD's.
in fact it was a LONG time before I owned a CD, because I was waiting on something, ANYTHING I could half tolerate coming out on the format. I'm not at all sure what my first purchase actually was....I remember RENTING The Eurhymics 1984 soundtrack, and that was the first disc I played. But owned????? either Rage Hard by FGTH, or Ghostdancing by Simple minds. Both tracks oddly mark the end of me giving a fuck about anything either band did, I suspect this was largely due to the increasing effect NO were having on my brain, rather than some by-product of PCM encoded music.
I think my first NO CD was R+R!!!!!!!!!!!! I defo bought technique on cassette, as the aforementioned CDplayer had expired n fairly short order and they were still kinda pricey to buy if you wanted one that might actually work.
Does anyone have any "REAL" CD's? As in, 2 layers of optical glass or toughened plexiglass , with the data layer and reflective layer BETWEEN them? Hardly ANY made it to the shops, the "spray some silver pint on the back of one sheet of polycarbonate" technique being the key to making huge whore profits for the record companies. This is why all those early demo's of CD on TV featured stupid abuse tests like eating dinner off them or driving a car over them...but the first CD you bought from the shops went loony the first time it fell on some slightly rough carpet. They're a little better now, but damnit, if they have the phillips Compact Disc Digital Audio ensignia they should be fucking indestructable.
