yet another reason to hate U2

Admitted that STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR sounded fcuking great with a gospel choir on Rattle & Hum,but the idea is still as mad as cheese.![]()
Cheers Popey but I don't need anymore reasons to hate U2.
All stocked up here, have been for years ![]()

U2 music is great until joshua tree....everything else is complete and utter crap......probably because Bono became voice for the world around that time as well.
Ahhh the quality of U2 hatred is not strained, it droppeth as the gentle rain from Heaven.
The only sucked less pre Joshua tree cos they sounded even more of a JD ripoff :hehe:
And the only soapboxing Bongo did was about Ireland, he hadn;t yet appointed himself as deity of all reality.

Very true, but it wouldn't be anything LIKE as much fun ![]()
"U2 somehow seems to live in rock music's hedonistic world — without being of it."
That's 'cos they live up bono's arse, which they all disapered up in 1984.
U2 oh U-oooh2 journey on to escape his ass or you will soon be dead
(to the tune of Lemmywinks/paris hilton)
I saw them in Japan, they were amazing. Great band, great tunes and amazing lightshow.
'Oh, this is alright' I thought. Then Bongo crawled onto the stage (I'm not wearing this up) wearing a blindfold, pretending to be blind, feeling around for his microphone then ranting in Japanese. Or it might have been English, I'd gone to the bar. Later he told the audience that he wished his dad was here because he'd say 'take off those fucking glasses'. Then he took off his glasses. They were back on again within five minutes. The rest of the band look at him with disgust when he's up to all that shit. Especially the Edge. At one point the edge snapped, stormed over to Bongo, snatched the mic in his hand, bellowed 'shut the fuck up and get on with the songs you twat', then twatted Bongo in the face, knocking off his glasses.
Well, that's not actually true. But he looked like he might.
Over 30 years they've some good stuff, but not enough. I'll put my hands up an say i've got the two old best of's from a few years ago and Achtung Baby.
Wouldn't make it into my top 20 bands though.

Biggie.. how was Japan btw? did you manage to walk around the country without twatting any Japs?

One thing it's NOT is Scotch, that's Whiskey, call a scotsman scotch and he will ask you if you pass a medical facility on your way home and suggest you get this stitched.
Oh Biggie, if only U2 WERE New Order, that story may have been true :D
I've never heard a Scot call whisky 'Scotch'. To do so would imply that there is another type of whisky worth talking about.

VERY true sir.
Mind you I've seen a few Scots sink a few glasses of Black Bush, and not complain....mind you I don't think they were PAYING ![]()
This does always make me laugh:
"At a recent U2 gig in Glasgow, Bono launched into his finger-snapping routine, which any of you that have seen the band live will be familiar with. In case you haven't, there is a part in the show when Bono gets the crowd to be silent and begins clicking his fingers at five-second intervals before poignantly telling the hushed crowd: 'Every time I click my fingers, a child dies in Africa.' Well, when he reached this moment at the Glasgow gig, one punter broke the reverent silence with the soon to be legendary: 'Well stop clicking your fucking fingers then!' The crowd roared with laughter and the moment was totally lost."

Considering Achtung Baby is my favorite album by then, I can't agree with you on that one.
U2 has always had some bit of religion at its core-"Gloria anyone?" I am not surprised that someone uses U2's songs in a religious context-tho it is over the top! If it brings people to the flock or gets ya to look there-what's the big deal??
and my favorite record of all time is "The Joshua Tree" Take that you snobs....:p

Seems Actung baby was a HUGE hit, and possibly most fans favorite....almost the holy grail of albums to some, but I've never really seen the appeal. Especially that song "One", which has somany music artists saying its thier #1 song of all time, but to me its an annoying song......so who knows, maybe I have my head up my ass and one day it'll come out for sunshine.:\ohwell:
White Christian Americans are well known throughout history for their taste in music and dance... so this says volumes about U2

U2 is the greatest band of all time........
If you're talking Christian rock, considering that their main competition in that area is Amy Grant and that guy with three names who can't manage to sing with any of them ![]()

My favorite of it is not even on the album.. it's the Temple Bar remix (single version) of Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses... they put the guitar up, and it was simply great.
Bongo on stage apparently said..."every word I speak another child in Africa dies"
Why does'nt he shut the fuck up then?
U2 it is not the greatest band all times, i'd stay with New Order....Even live, have you been more excited at u2 gig or New order gig??. for me New Order.
Simple solution, if Bono snapping his fingers kills African children then somebody should break all his fingers ![]()
Think about it folks... the most obvious solution is very often the best.

I'll give that song a try.....
Don't get me wrong, U2 have put out some great music over their career. But they're kinda like the guy who knows he's a genius: you admire his brains, but not the fact that he rubs it in every chance that he gets ![]()
And I used to get swirlies when I did that in high school, so I should know :D
Say, does anyone want to see my A+ paper on Franz Kafka? ![]()
Regarding the subject line, I don't see why this is a reason to hate U2. Bono isn't involved...it's just a matter of people using U2's music to further their own agenda. Frankly, I don't see why Bono is so hated. Yes, he's completely full of himself...but that doesn't mean he's an assshole. He's involved in many worthwhile causes and has a reputation for being extremely nice to his fans, which is more than you can say for many rock stars.
Really, what has the guy done that's so bloody awful?

About 10 studio albums....
i have never ever liked U2
but bono did make me cringe the other day
i heard the recording of him and "the edge" on stage with pearl jam in hawaii playing rockin in the free world
and he refers to themselves as "U-Jam"

Possibly the most retarded statement I've read on this forum, and I've read Craig W's posts.
That's right, we're all jealous ![]()

I was talking to my mate about the gig and telling him about the blindfold bit and the comment about his dad. He did the same blind man stunt at Hampden Park in June of last year. Even more sad is that he told the EXACT same story about his da. A rehearsed "ad-lib" is surely the lowest of the low?
BIGINOIL and myself were trying to second guess how many "rock spectacular" cliches the show would contain. I guessed Bono would try and speak a lot of Japanese (yup!) Col said that the first track would be a medley (almost, a gapless seague into Vertigo). We were both kicking ourselves however that we didn't get the most obvious one of them all....he took to the stage waving a massive Japanese flag!!! Youtube evidence below
All things considered though it was a fecking fantastic gig. Bongo is a twat, no question of that. You cannae knock the likes of Pride, Vertigo and Sunday Bloody Sunday though. And the lights were amazing.
When I looked at the setlists for the three Tokyo nights on u2.com they were all radically different, the running orders were chopped and changed with four or five songs a night dropping in and out the final list. NO couldn't learn much from U2 but they'd be well served taking note of that for the next tour!
