U2 has always had some bit of religion at its core-"Gloria anyone?" I am not surprised that someone uses U2's songs in a religious context-tho it is over the top! If it brings people to the flock or gets ya to look there-what's the big deal??

Seems Actung baby was a HUGE hit, and possibly most fans favorite....almost the holy grail of albums to some, but I've never really seen the appeal. Especially that song "One", which has somany music artists saying its thier #1 song of all time, but to me its an annoying song......so who knows, maybe I have my head up my ass and one day it'll come out for sunshine.:\ohwell:
White Christian Americans are well known throughout history for their taste in music and dance... so this says volumes about U2
U2 is the greatest band of all time........
If you're talking Christian rock, considering that their main competition in that area is Amy Grant and that guy with three names who can't manage to sing with any of them

My favorite of it is not even on the album.. it's the Temple Bar remix (single version) of Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses... they put the guitar up, and it was simply great.

Don't get me wrong, U2 have put out some great music over their career. But they're kinda like the guy who knows he's a genius: you admire his brains, but not the fact that he rubs it in every chance that he gets 
And I used to get swirlies when I did that in high school, so I should know :D

Regarding the subject line, I don't see why this is a reason to hate U2. Bono isn't involved...it's just a matter of people using U2's music to further their own agenda. Frankly, I don't see why Bono is so hated. Yes, he's completely full of himself...but that doesn't mean he's an assshole. He's involved in many worthwhile causes and has a reputation for being extremely nice to his fans, which is more than you can say for many rock stars.

but bono did make me cringe the other day
i heard the recording of him and "the edge" on stage with pearl jam in hawaii playing rockin in the free world

Well, that's not actually true. But he looked like he might.
I was talking to my mate about the gig and telling him about the blindfold bit and the comment about his dad. He did the same blind man stunt at Hampden Park in June of last year. Even more sad is that he told the EXACT same story about his da. A rehearsed "ad-lib" is surely the lowest of the low?
BIGINOIL and myself were trying to second guess how many "rock spectacular" cliches the show would contain. I guessed Bono would try and speak a lot of Japanese (yup!) Col said that the first track would be a medley (almost, a gapless seague into Vertigo). We were both kicking ourselves however that we didn't get the most obvious one of them all....he took to the stage waving a massive Japanese flag!!! Youtube evidence below
All things considered though it was a fecking fantastic gig. Bongo is a twat, no question of that. You cannae knock the likes of Pride, Vertigo and Sunday Bloody Sunday though. And the lights were amazing.
When I looked at the setlists for the three Tokyo nights on u2.com they were all radically different, the running orders were chopped and changed with four or five songs a night dropping in and out the final list. NO couldn't learn much from U2 but they'd be well served taking note of that for the next tour!
