Ever have an artist or band that, when you first encountered them or became aware of them, made you feel one way, then years later you ended up changing your mind about (for good or ill)? I have two (one good, the other bad)
The Good: When I first had the ability to process an entity known as "The Beach Boys", it must've been about the time that Kokomo was giving us all an unwelcome geography lesson on the radio. But years later, having read all about this great album called Pet Sounds, I decided to ask my mom to get it for me one Xmas (because I didn't actually want to spend my own money, you see). Now, after almost twelve years of owning Pet Sounds and a few years of owning at least two other Beach Boys best-ofs, I have to admit I was totally wrong when I thought they were crap. Dammit, I'm a fan of the Beach Boys...and I don't care that you know that ![]()
The Bad: Oasis, at least after What's the Story Morning Glory?. Boy, they didn't turn out to be the "new Beatles" after all, but just a tribute band that got lucky. I still have some nostalgia for the pre-Be Here Now era, but after that point it's just so much sound and fury, signifying Liam Gallagher's drunken inability to carry a tune :beer2:
