Looking For Program To Catalog Music Collection

The Mrs. & I want to catalogue our music collection. Can anyone recommend an easily searchable and updatable application that has ample amount of fields for all relevant info? It must be Mac friendly.

Not exactly sure what you mean, but iTunes? Catalogues my music fine :nod:

To clarify, we want to catalogue all of our CD's, Vinyl & etc.

I use a cataloguer called gwhere, but it has two problems for your purposes....

I dunno if there is an OSX version.
It can only catalogue named files, and doesnt look up the CDDB

I'll keep me eyes open for you on freshmeat and sourceforge but.

if you have office, try microsoft's excel collection template... you may have to edit some, but more or less pretty handy...

here...

Well for CD's and DVD's and the like one would hope to get a program that can close the cdrom door, scan and catalogue the full directory tree (for data, and add CDDB tags for audio), and then then hand you the disc back, so only the vynil will need done by hand.

Well I got mine catalogued online on a site called musiksammler.de. But it's in german so it won't help you much I guess... You can get everything in there: Vinyl, CDs, DVD... You just have to put the barcode number in, if the CD or what ever doesn't exist you have to put it in yourself, and so the database grows...

You can join for free and it's as simple as searching for any release you can think of then clicking 'Add to Collection'. You can keep track of everything by Cat#, Artist or Title on your personal member page. The good thing is you can review your collection from any computer with a net connection so it's not limited to just the home machine.

The only drawback with Discogs.com is that it might not have absolutely everything but once you become a member you can add new releases to help the database grow.

I'm currently filling in the blanks for the more obscure Electronic and New Order promo CDs these days.

Thanks for the input. I'll investigate these. I almost attempted to use Excel to catalogue all of the shit, erm... I mean records/CD's/memorabilia, etc we have accumulated over the years.

Of course, I could always sell my wife's Cure collection to help reduce the number of items & descriptions to log. :evil4:

Online RYM lets you export to excel too. Mostly point-and-click if what you have already is available. Might be worth looking at.
