Well, now realizing the other thread was for only guitarists, and one of mine was a bassist....give it to us:
- Les Claypool (Primus)
- Flea (RHCP)
- Kim Deal (Pixies)
- Hooky (NO)
- Matt Freeman (Rancid)
(plus I just hit 1500 thread count)

Just been listening to 'Garlands' too much lately, and was under the impression Mr Guthrie did everything but wail beautifully.

There was another bassist then, Will Heggie. He got inexplicably sacked by a stroppy Liz (who'd have through it??!!) and Raymonde didn't get drafted in until "Treasure", so Guthrie did do everything but wail on 'Head over Heels'.
Much love,
An Anorak.
1.) Hooky 2.) Entwistle 3.) John Paul Jones (Zeppelin) 4.) Chas Chandler (Animals) 5.) Rick Danko (the Band)
Special nods to Brian Wilson (better known for his songwriting than his bass-playing) and Rick James (ditto).
And let's not forget Tito Jackson...he needs to eat too!
:p
Peter Hook - the man Les Pattinson - Bunnymen bassgod Jim Reilly Jim Reilly (believe me guys, you've only heard him do JD/NO stuff, I've heard a lot more) Krist Novoselic - Kobain stooge-type Stephen Hanley - The mighty Fall (when they were good)
My top 5 favourite bass players would be:
Hooky Youth (Killing Joke) David Ellefson (Megadeth) Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) Jah Wobble (PIL)
![]()
Hooky (thinks bass is a lead guitar) Les (Thinks bass is a banjo) Wobble (thinks bass is WoMaD) Dave Bronze ( AoN) Herbie Flowers ( player of THE bassline on the WOTW musical )
Hooky (would say that even if Jack wasn't here)
another vote for Stephen Hanley as well
J. Entwistle
John Paul Jones
Robbie Shakespeare
James Jamerson ....
Entwistle John Paul Jones
Flea, Stuart Zender (ex Jamiroquai), Mani, Andy Rourke, Les Pattison, and of course Hooky all up there.
Also the studio bassists for companies like Motown and the various bassists for James Brown over the years.
Hooky Les Claypool Jaco Pastorius Brian Gibson [Lightning Bolt] Scott Reeder [Kyuss]
Other mentions: Jesse F. Keeler [DFA1979] John Cale Roger Waters
Hooky Lemmy Simenon - wore a bass better than anyone else. Paul Barker (ministry) saw in Manc about 1991, Barker played stuff I always thought must be sequenced. Kim Deal and Cait O'Riordan for being babes.
hooky
jj burnel
BOTH cocteau twins bassists
simon gallup
mani
