AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!

LONDON (Reuters) - Faith groups joined forces on Tuesday to try to stop sweeping gay rights laws they say will force them to act against their religious beliefs. They will deliver a petition to the Queen and stage a torch-lit protest outside parliament as the Lords discusses the laws. The legislation, a cornerstone of the country's efforts to promote equal rights, would ban discrimination in the provision of goods and services on the basis of sexuality in a similar way to laws on sex and race discrimination. It would mean that hotels could be prosecuted for refusing to provide rooms for gay couples and parishes obliged to rent out halls for gay wedding receptions. Equally, gay bars would not be able to ban straight couples.Christian opponents argue the legislation is a major threat to their freedom of conscience and that they should not be penalised for acting according to their beliefs. But gay rights campaigners say the proposals would simply extend existing anti-discrimination laws to homosexuals."This is a very sensible and moderate proposal which seeks to protect people from unfair and unequal treatment," Angela Eagle, a Labour Party MP told BBC radio."It gives to lesbian and gay people ... exactly the same rights and protections as were granted in 1998 to people on the grounds of their religious beliefs."Thousands of religious opponents have already signed the petition to the Queen, asking her, as head of the Church of England, to request the government rethink the laws."The debate ... is a signal to the government of the need to acknowledge that these regulations do not currently strike the correct balance between two competing rights," said Thomas Cordrey, public policy analyst for the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship. The law, known as the Sexual Orientation Regulations, came into force in Northern Ireland on January 1 but the government postponed its introduction in England and Wales until April due to the scale of opposition.Britain took a major step towards equal rights in December 2005 when it introduced civil partnerships for gay couples, giving them the same rights as heterosexuals but stopping short of calling the ceremony a marriage.Since then more than 15,000 couples have registered, including pop star Elton John and his partner David Furnish.

Yes but since all animal populations exhibit homosexuality (and increasing infertility) as they approach the point of population collapse, there's nothing wrong or unnatural about pooves.

I was joking about the "wrong" but not sure if it is entirely natural for one dude to allow another dude to slip the other's man-meat into his brown-eyed cyclops -or- desire another man's chowder to be sprayed upon the his hairy chest.:nono:

Just because you don't come across prejudice in your life doesn't mean it doesn't exist... Ok so a B&B may not have a sign up but I know of a couple that have been refused a double rooms in B&B's in the UK on countless occasions simply because they are both men and they have said that although now (they have been together for well over 15 years) they're less likely to be verbally abused just for inquiring, that it's still rare to find a place that is 'gay friendly'...especially in some of the rural places that they like to visit.

Well, I live in Canada, I can marry however I want, man or woman, over 18, anytime... no need for love! Well actually I can't, polygamy is illegal ;-)

You can now do fake gay weddings, just like there were in the past for man and woman that marry because of their parents companies and stuff like that.

It will bring a new breed of Gold diggers ;-)

But well, it's life... they have the right to have the same things as the other.. the only thing that bugs me is adoption... I know the argument that there are very bad families around, many children are raised with only one parent... but I wouldn't want to be the one who goes through high-school telling everybody he has 2 dads... I believe that could be very damagable...

Agreed. Rosie Odonnel was on her shows complaining about how her adopted son doesn't seem to be acting normal, and blamed it on him, but if you heard all the crap she was discussing on national tv, it was like.....

 maybe its because there's no dad and two moms (or is one the dad? )

SoCal is just as liberal as NorCal, until you get to San Diego. It's all the military bases that skew things. Even with the military presence, San Diego, is just barely a Republican town.

And San Francisco has a large gay population because it's a tolerant city. When gay people get tired of the gay-bashing in their shitty little All-American hometowns, they leave for New York, San Francisco, and other cosmopolitan meccas, where they can just live their lives in peace...

I suppose God had nothing to with homosexual animals either, or those Satanic asexually reproducing plants!

I suppose God also told the Pope that condoms should be banned in Africa as well so that the whole continent can die of HIV!

I always rely on contraceptive advice from a man who claims to be celebate(and has probably impregnated 1000 nuns). Then again all popes used to be cardinals who used to be priests, so he's probably followed God's path to avoiding sex with women....raping young boys. Christians, loathe them or ignore them, you can't like them.

Actually most of So Cal is borderline on either side. LA tends to be highly liberal due to its high proportion of hispanics. San Diego used to be comfortably conservative, but there are more and more peole moving from other areas into San Diego which has made as you mentioned, barely conservative. Riverside and san bernidino are about the same way. Orange county is just a mess. All in all, though, So Cal is as conservative as it gets in Cali (though I am not too well versed in real northern Ca, I mean who really cares about what Redding thinks?:uhoh: )

Rosie O'Donnell is a shite mom. Not because she's a d*ke but because she's an awful human being and just a fucking pig! Being gay is probably the only thing she has going for her as a parent, because maybe it'll show her kids to overcome the adversity of having such a crap mother

True, Orange County was always the conservative balance to L.A.. although L.A. prolly outweighs O.C. population-wise.

But the coastal cities are the state's real population centers, and San Diego excepted, they are the west coast bastions of the liberal archipelago. It's not until you go inland, into the central valley, that you start finding solidly conservative communities (Redding included, prolly).

San Francisco tends to have a low tolerance level for intolerance, if that's what you mean. Anti-gay and/or racist hate mongers would be well advised not to hold their rallies in San Francisco.

It depends on which San Franciscans you're talking about, though. The City's blue collar population is fairly conservative, although that may be relative to the rest of San Francisco, rather than to the country. Frank Jordan was a conservative San Francisco mayor, but almost anywhere else in America, he'd be a liberal.

Where did you get your info on L.A.? Hispanics tend to be liberal on the voting stance, and is the main reason L.A> is liberal. Now in thier day to day life, I think they act more conservative.

Probably right on San Fran, but I've never lived there, so couldn't say for sure.

As far as politics go, they are prolly in general socially conservative but economically liberal.

It has nothing to do with being a dyke. Any kid who has Rosie O'Donnell for a mother is probably not going to turn out normal. Ever since she stopped her talk show about five years ago, she just seems to try to take the spotlight as a pseudo-gay rights activist and it's kind of annoying, because she really doesn't do anything.

Going back to the original topic, although I don't know how much of a separation of church and state your government has, religious groups should not have any influence in it. Over on this side of the pond, right-wing religious nuts already seem to have too much influence. If they can't deal with homosexuals having the same rights they do, well, they should just hole themselves up in a cave and stay there so the rest of us don't have to listen to them.

Sending the victim of persecution off to live in a cave and sending the persecutor off to live in a cave aren't equally sensible suggestions...

How about firebombing both, or just one of them? Is that ok?:confused2:

Well, apparently Pat Robertson said that God told him just last week that millions will be killed in some kind of mass destruction this year...

Anybody have a link?

Ah, yes, the latest from Pat Robertson...

"I have a relatively good track record," he said. "Sometimes I miss."

In May, Robertson said God told him that storms and possibly a tsunami were to crash into America's coastline in 2006.

Even though the U.S. was not hit with a tsunami, Robertson on Tuesday cited last spring's heavy rains and flooding in New England as partly fulfilling the prediction.

Yeah, there would be storms along the US coast in 2006. Who could have predicted that? The man's a prophet...

Pat Robertson's prophecies for 2007:

  1. It will rain somewhere in North America THIS YEAR!

  2. Somewhere in North America, a child will be born.

  3. I like pudding.

  4. God will personally return to earth and sit in judgment of homosexuals, before personally ramming a hail of fire and brimstone up their bums.

  5. Somebody, somewhere in North America, will receive an email offer.

In 2008, Pat Robertson comments on his 2007 predictions:

“I have a relatively good track record. Sometimes I miss.”

Pretty sure homophobes like Pat Robertson think about gay sex far more than decent well-meaning queers. Which tells you something....

Agreed. Rosie Odonnel was on her shows complaining about how her adopted son doesn't seem to be acting normal, and blamed it on him, but if you heard all the crap she was discussing on national tv, it was like.....

 maybe its because there's no dad and two moms (or is one the dad? )

must be cos she's a Dyke then....nothinh to do with her being an asshole?

It has nothing to do with being a dyke. Any kid who has Rosie O'Donnell for a mother is probably not going to turn out normal.

Which WAS rather my point.

Christ it's true, you lot really don;t comprehend sarcasm unless someone flags it to you

I forgot that was my signature. It is a bit ironic. But, God or Pat Robertson has yet to put fire and brimstone up my ass.
