Smashing Pumpkins to reactivate

a tour is planning, as well as new album (May probably). What I great foompkin news!

I've known about this for months. No one seems to know the actual line up though, Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlain and unknown... could very well be Guns N Roses esque.

Well if Iha are Darcy are involved, why havent their names been mentioned? Jimmy gets loads of mentions.

Dont know mate,but i remember reading an interview with Corgan around the time of his solo album in which he said that SP would only reform if it was (in his words) one in-ALL in.

I've heard about this awhile ago, and it is suppose to be chamberlain. The Pumpkins just weren't as good without him, and I think Corigan finally realized he wasn't the godsend he thought he was.

But screw flood, they were much better with vig at the helm.

Darcy & Iha are out so I don't know why they're still calling themselves Smashing Pumpkins....

someone should tie billy corgan up and paint a big evil smiley face on his bald head and torment him with courtney love's music for two days straight....leave him in a room with her shitty music on repeat.

I've always had respect for Corgan as a guitar player and lyricist, but his solo album was awful. Only three good tracks on it. The problem with it was the lack of guitars and the over powering synths - which only seemed to come in two kind of sounds. I think if he wanted to do a more electronic album, then he should've collaborated with someone already established - ie: Stephen or Barney, Alan Wilder, Roger O'Donnell - instead of doing it himself, which is essentially Corgan's problem. If Corgan wrote the guitar parts and lyrics and New Order helped him in the studio with the keyboards and programming, the album would've turned out 100x better.

I never heard the solo album. I think the Pumpkins went downhill when chamberlain left and they started using a drum machine. The only reason I cut at corgan a bit is because the band members basically claimed his perfectionism is what drove the band apart...... plus with mellon collie hitting big, corgan's attitude changed for the worse (maybe as a defense mechanism to show his ex that he was fine without her?). Anyways, if he allows chamberlain back and darcy and iha are included, it probably means his ego has been put in check and a real potential for a strong album seems likely.

But back to your point, it seems idiotic that he din't enlist NO since he already worked with them.....but I think it was his ego getting in the way once again.

I've read that he asked Darcy and Iha to come back but they have declined. He cant't just get anything he wants.

Without them, the new line up is just a SP cover band.

I think they could possibly do it well without darcy, but not without iha. On board with the "cover band" thought.

Melissa Auf der Maur isn't taking her place either and Iha is involved with A Perfect Circle. Whoever replaces D'arcy doesn't matter (the bass parts for SP are incredibly easy), but Iha co-wrote some important songs with Corgan in the early days (I am one, Mayonaise, Soma, a few songs from the Aeroplane box set) and he had more of a role with the guitar parts on Machina. But, considering he learned all his guitar technique from Corgan too, he's not as easily replaced by a studio musician without some altering to the sound. Zwan was basically SP with a few extra musicians, and that's what this revived SP seems like it'll be.

Looking into it it was D'arcy that had the cocaine charges.

Suprised I didn't know that Iha was on a perfect cicle (that is a really great band). But I don't see how apc is going to conflict as apc is in hiatius, as it is a side project for so many of the band members.

Agree that d'arcy's bass lines aren't difficult, but I think he has to be carefull who replaces her. He hopefully doesn't get someone who over-complicates the bassline, as I think it can be a downfall for the music.

it's been over 15 years since the first record, time to get the nostalgia money from the over 30 crowd... almost every band does this

personally, i don't care what Corgan does, just as long as he doesnt sing any Joy Division songs
