They're fucking shit. Its all because country girl was quite popular. Up there amongst the very worst live bands I have ever seen.

Hopefully, it'll have the same effect it had on New Order!

Woah...

The only song I know from them and the only one that crossed the pound is Rocks back in 1993...

I doubt you can apply God-Like Geniuses Awards to people totally unknown outside of their own country

they are good for spotting the influences/rip offs and the interviews and live shows can be a good laugh, but genius? nah.

Screamadelica is brilliance from start to finish but you get the impression if Mr Weatherall hadn't been on board it would've been just another shit attempt to rip off the Stones (see: current album). As mentioned in articles Weatherall practically had to take a "blowtorch" to I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have to turn it into something interesting.

The last album they did I had alot of time for was XTRMNTR which has a nice rough edge to it. All the singles off that album sounded angry and got the blood pumping  Evil Heat I found to be a bit of a let down but still had flashes of brilliance (Autobahn 66) here and there.

God-like genius? Nah.

Been lucky and worked with the right people? Probably.

Just don't turn your hi-fi up near Gillespie and his Gladiator-named sprogs :uhoh:

They were on at the same time as New Order in Barca weren't they?

I never bothered with them, too busy ensuring a place on the front barriers for NO

I would like to see PS live though... when I can be arsed.

For the record, I saw then live opening for Depeche Mode in 1994 in Montreal... and I don't recall finding it that good...

Genius suggests invention and intelligence. Can't really see them inventing anything. I have liked em a lot over the years, but they are just a good pub rock band that got lucky in meeting Mr Weatherall before he got on the smack.

Listened to em a fair bit over the years but Godlike Geniuses??? Nah NME must sometimes wish they hadn't invented that award.Must be a bastard trying to think of who to give the award to each year

Not sure I'd go as far as "God Like", but I don't think I'd go as far as "fucking shit" either.

Barney's too busy thinking up his next shit collaboration with Gillespie

Let's hope he doesn't stick it on another New Order album to ruin it.

Sorry, but the other bullshit bands the NME awards are a good indication of just what it takes to be a "Godlike Whatsit."

The award's name "Godlike genius" must have been thought up by a cunt...and a load of other daft cunts sat round a table must have said"yes, let's all be fuckin dickheads"

Does this mean the new Primal Scream album will have a promo sticker on the front reading

"Godlike genius" - NME

as though the NME actually said that about the album instead of the band itself (hint hint)?

Come Together. all Come Together now. Gospel Rhythm Blues and jazz... Realistic? to think that lots 'round these boards have seen them Live through the years. Have some good lines. Staying Power w/ changes too. Though they've tried to maintain Power has no place in (their) Music. These seemingly endless market Labels. Use the word just 'smacks out of context. See what they make of it if anything at all.

I cant believe that some of you still buy into all the crap that the NME dish out. They stopped being a decent music paper ages ago. Everything they come up with these days just makes me laugh. They're not worth a diddly squat - let alone the 2 quid each issue costs [is that some sort of postmodernist joke as well?] - neither are most of the crummy bands they like to hype up at every available opportunity.
