What is crack?

If it's just pure cocaine, why is it cheaper than normal cocaine (or so I hear)?

It was in the newspaper that, following a few good drug busts, there's no cocaine in Aberdeen right now, but the streets are awash with crack. Why is this? And why can't people who want cocaine just buy crack and dilute it to the desired strength?

There was also a story I heard in the pub last night (during a conversation that was the origin of this post, in fact) about yellow crack that is even purer than the normal stuff. Yellow? There's got to be something else mixed with that, hasn't there?

Why go to the trouble of purifying the cocaine in order to sell it cheaper? Is it because it's more addictive and therefore they'll sell more in the long run?

Eee, when I were a lad it was bifters and cider down the park, then a chase off the parkie or the local copper. No wonder the country's gone to the dogs.

No, but I was drunk and we didn't manage to work out the answer to these questions.

Unlike the question of how to combat diving in football, which we sorted right out!

according to a book I just read ...crack is...

Powdered Cocaine Baking Soda Tap Water

mix together in a sauce pan, heat on stove until the water evaporates and a bunch of crystals form from the evaporation (rocks will make a "cracking" sound while forming in the heat)

I assume that is streches out the cocaine so it is more cost effective and that smoking it gives you a quicker high, even thou it contains less actual cocaine per serving

During the 80s there was a Cocaine buyers market, suppliers were overstocked and the price was low, which helped kickstart the crack market. Also, reportedly alot of the money made from selling cocaine for crack in the USA were profits for USA CIA supported groups in Central America which led to the rumours that the USA gov't was supporting the black urban American crack problem to destroy the black communities while supporting questionable foreign regimes

Slightly different chemical structure.

Cocaine is an organic salt so it is soluble in water and can be snorted. It can't be smoked because the temperature required to vaporise it is so high.

Crack isn't a salt so isn't water soluble but is more volatile so will vaporise on heating.

You seem quite knowledgable on this....you making the stuff in your own shed?

Do you teach science?

If so..............can you answer me a question.......

Which is heavier.......cold or hot water? I know the answer....so 'tread' carefully! :evil4:

You're confusing weight with density.

1L of hot water will weigh a bit less than 1L of cold water as there is actually less water, the liquid having expanded.

this only holds true above 4C, below that temperature, water behaves atypically, and actually expands again, hence the many forms of damage caused by freezing ( destruction of cells in fruits, burt piipes, the whole shebang)

A sealed capsule of ultra pure water will be liquid below 0°C as freezing needs something on which the crystals can start to form. A bit of dust or a scratch on th glass and the whole things freezes.

I knew that :D, it also does NOT conduct, again it's the impurities. IS there a temperature at which pure water would freeze?

BTW, if you heated the same sealed vessel, with your scales being the bottom of te container...the hot water would appear to weight more owing to the buildup of pressure.

And yes, Kath, I know exacly where that camse from.

Get him a copy of "the book of general ignorance", and retire to a safe distance (inverness I should think)

you don't need to speak in complicated language -I have an A level in Sums you know!

Sums. I haven't used that word for years........... It's a bit like 'times tables'...long time ago. TBH, it is a great pity they aren't taught that way now from an early age - or are they? (:ignore: ); its just that I see the coursework for AS level Maths..............

and English...............

And Sciences...............

Jeez.

What happened to grafting for your A levels?

Interesting question. A drug which absolutely nobody I know has any experience of either. Is that what you were refering to by that "rough stuff" comment earlier?

Oh, don't worry he had that in his xmas stocking..........I know everything there is to know now! :read: God love his cottons............ I confess........I've found it most interesting reading...............

PS - think I should tell you (might piss others off - off topic etc) that he is awaiting - with some kind of eagerness - to continue conversation!)...........don't forget Life on Mars next week..................oh god, he'll be off again...........

i seem to remeber that drano could be used to boil it up in.

either way it is just like making hash. get the active ingrediant soluable and seperatable. in this case it is a cutting agent and some cheap available home cleaning agent gives you the "extra" high. the rocks take longer to burn, just smoking regular coke wastes alot.

Cheers JT - can't wait to resurect that pub conversation now.

And you all thought that salt was something you put on your chips!

Additional info over a pint: A salt is the product of a reaction between and acid and a base (alkali or amine). Organic compounds (such as cocaine) are insoluble in the same way as oil is, they don't have enough sticky bits in the molecular structure to interact with the water molecules. By reacting an organic base (cocaine) with an acid, a salt is produced. This can then be extracted from the plant matter and purified. Crack has the salt turned back into a base and is then classed as a freebase, hence the term hence the clever pun to get the conversation back to Norder!

Common salt is put on chips and roads.

Most of the rock salt used on British and Irish roads, comes from a salt mine opposite bangor, on the other shore of Belfast lough. Some also, bizarrely, goes to the USA.

Coc-H+Cl– + NaHCO3 → Coc + H2O + CO2 + NaCl.

Or a fucking waste of good Charlie! It's a way of upping profit, by cutting coke with crap. When "cooked" the ratio is 50/50 to 40/60 percent cocaine/bicarbonate. So your getting less Charlie & more bicarbonate for your money. Like most drugs the stories of it's potency are greatly exaggerated, but unlike a lot of drugs the crack high is extremely short. All in all an unattractive substitute for the "real thing".

Anybody who got surgery kind of like morphein ;)

Beside legal, I actually never took any (not even pot)... reason being, seeing how that affected my older brother as a user and lead to one of his friends to be killed because he was selling dope on the wrong street. (Killed by some Hells Angel I believe... funny thing is, his father was a cop)

Scares you to even try it.. I was satisfied with legal stuff like alcohol ;)

But if one day I'm in Amsterdam, I might give it a try since it WILL be legal :p

Common misconception, weed (hash/grass/blaw etc) are not legal in Amsterdam. If you have less than 100 grams on your person (for personal use) you will not be prosecuted; any more and there is the possibility of being charged with intent to supply (or mere possession). Hash (solid) & grass have only been decriminalised, there is a difference, and not just technical, between this and legal. Certain coffee shops etc are given a licence to be able to sell it. But it is still illegal, yes it is a strange state of affairs. But it is certainly better than allowing the real killer drugs tobacco and alcohol to be legal while outlawing such a harmless, and often beneficial drug as marijuana.

ps it's "morphine" (& it's most common form derivative being of course heroin [diacetylmorphine] and not as I've often seen it "heroine").:)

I hope you really weren't serious when you call weed "beneficial", as alcohol is probably just as "beneficial" as weed if not more so if not abused.
