The Chiefs, the love to play live, and that comes accross in their performances, there's real gusto and relish in their playing.
Having said that, "Ruby" STINKS of "your last album did surprisingly well for us, so get back in the studio with some flavour of the month producer, and get us an album and 3 singles by Friday". Nice enough wee tune and all, I just sense it was written at gunpoint. Chemicals 2nd album died a nasty death of that disease.
Really like both debut albums, saw Kaiser Chiefs at V in 2005 and they were excellent live both musically and general all round entertainment. Saw Franz Ferdinand live on TV and they were shite, seemed to ditch the cool sophistication of themselves on record to result in a pub band shouting lyrics into a microphone.

decided to watch them in leeds last year, despite me hating them i gave them a chance to win me over, i went and stood there with an open mind

Seen them live twice. An excellent live band, although can be anaemic on record.
I'm gonna have to go with FF...but having said this...I'm not entirely sure that I have ever heard the Chiefs...

Agreed! Heard them both and thought they sucked. Franz Ferdinand? All I hear is their influences-no great shot of originality. Anyone can cover Gang of Four if they like. Just don't make a band out of it.
What a strange poll. You're not exactly comparing an apple with an apple are you? They've hardly anything in common.
That said, I find the Kaiser Chiefs excrutiatingly embarassing to watch. Five blokes in their 30's doing indie-lite by numbers to kids like my 14 year old godson (a massive fan, bless him) and 19 year old wee sister (they share shelf space in her collection with Beyonce, Girls Aloud and Orson) . There's nothing wrong with pop, which is all they are at the end of the day, it's just a bit unnerving watching old blokes do it while taking themselves a bit too seriously.
As for Frank Ferdinand, I can understand the attraction but speaking as a bit of an old bastard myself who is familiar with every band they draw "influence" from, I find it hard to take them that seriously. They don't offend me though, and I've heard they're excellent live.

Franz's first album came out in January 2004. Kaiser Chiefs first album was in march 2005!

the best Franz gig I was at was either V 2005 when they played all the new stuff or at Leeds in 2004.
As for Kaisers, they've almost been a constant in my gig going these last few years. First saw them in the Roadhouse in Jan 04 supporting The Ordinary Boys. Then seen them open the NME tour and blew everyone away in 25 minutes. Up until two weeks ago, getting no reaction during any of the new songs but sending the place mad during the old stuff.
Anyway, for me, Kaisers win. The sheer violence down the front does it for me.
Franz for me. Was disappointed by the Kaiser Chiefs debut album bar the singles. Have to say Ruby is a super track

and no, that was on the muse night, that we were in the campsite while they were playing
a few of my mates are fans and so i sat thru them at leeds seeing as they assured me it would be great

I for one can't decide because, for a lack of better words, I really don't like 'em much. They're alright, but they're no new-wave lot. 
KC does nothing for me really. Thought their one single was catchy at first, but got old afte the third listen. FF only has one good song that I've heard so far (listened to only the singles, mind you) and Take Me Out is a great song, but everything else just doesn't really leave an impression on me. So other than one single, both are 
in my book.

what's their first album got to do with when the bands appeared?
kaisers started in 2002 (from previous carnation parva which started in around 1997)
franz started in late 2001
so that's around the same time, now who's clueless?

That song has to have the most irritating melody for some time. Well at least since Mika. I totally agree the Kaisers are garbage.
I bought both band's fast-selling albums to see what all the fuss was about. Kaiser Chiefs bored me after three or four tracks, saw them live and couldn't see why the kids were so into them, it's generic stuff really. When I first heard Franz Ferdinand I thought someone had uncovered an old Fire Engines, Orange Juice or Josef K track. The first FF album is stronger than the KC one by a long shot, haven't heard the new KC one yet to make fair comparison, but in my mind they are both NME fodder, and it honestly wouldn't bother me if I never heard either of them again.
I saw The Rapture last week, and they were bloody fantastic. Of all those bands (see FF most obviously) trying to pretend it's 1981, they're by far the best.
I realise that stating this in public is about as socially acceptable as confessing to paedophilia and being stricken with a particularly manky bout of leprosy, but they made me dance my wee socks off.

franz has 2 good tunes,kaisers have about ermm just 8,not a lot i know and i am no kaisers fan but they deffo win for me.also they played leeds cockpit a lot and still have done recently even though now famous so fair play to them
