From Wikipedia:

Just like Fred Astaire was a song by the indie band James. A well publicized battle with the estate of Fred Astaire which involved the usage of his name in the title almost overshadowed the song itself. It is a bouncy love song and led to some accusations of selling out from their fans.

1, Didn't hear about that at the time - anyone else?

2, What a tune, eh? I reckon it's in James's top ten.

The Crystal Palace terraces sang an alternative version called 'just like Vince Hilaire'.

Fantastic single (and album) - soundtracked my college days getting the 1hr 20min bus trip into Dundee every morning. We're Going To Miss You is another fcuking brilliant A-side from that album.

Can't say I remember any hoo-hah at the time regarding Astaire's name being used  I also wouldn't say it's a "bouncey" tune as the production's quite subdued and ambient in places.

I could maybe see Astaire's estate having a point if it was a shit song.

But it clearly wasn't :thumb:

Very tinny quality that one Biggy, just won't do so I took the liberty of finding this one. It's a bit better..Love this tune, the musical break in the middle, and when it kicks back in is magic :thumb:

But what the fuck does he say at the end :confused2:
You know when you just sing what you hear but you're pretty sure it's wrong? Well I do that..Like this..

"I'm just porterising(like Fred Astaire) I'm just porterising(like Fred Astaire.....)"

Never did find out what the real lyrics are

Certainly sounds like porterising

What is it about us and bands that don't sing clearly?
