Carpets/pro et contra

It is year 2007; 21st century to be more detailistic (is it a word? It is NOW!!)

Why are there still carpets in England is really beyond me

I remember having them in our apartment in Serbia back in 1984. Needless to say, the whole nation spontaneously got rid of them for good by the end of the 1980’s.

Carpets are one very evil source of dust mites and other bastards. I mean, hello asthma!! Not to mention the carpet cleaner companies; they charge you like 50 quid per room. Wtf?? I mean seriously, wtf??

I can understand if it’s a part of a tradition to have a carpet, I can understand that. But one would think England (note: when I say England I mean the whole United Kingdom, it’s just a silly habit of mine) being such a powerful and rich country is on the Moon already (figuratively speaking). I mean there’s so much choice in shops here, I could easily spend ages inside… :-P

Laminate floors rule baby. Easy to hoover easy to wipe, always clean shiny and bright (now that’s a rhyme!!) hee hee

I would like to know if other countries have them too. Don’t remember seeing them in American movies.

Well I will anyway. They do WONDERS for the accoustics of a room, rooms with no carpets and hard floors sound empty and derelict.

Laminate flooring is an aspiration of the underclasses. Proof ? Barbara Royle from the TV programme The Royle Family, 'I'd love to be laminated throughout'. carpets are warmer, hide dirt and spills, plus from an audiophile perspective they dont echo and bounce your music all around the room thus destroying your listening pleasure be it JD, NO or any other group

Just having a 10 minute NOOL break, having this morning, ripped out the only carpet in my house Spare bedroom that has had so much crap in it that I haven't seen the floor for years.

Rest of the house is proper wooden floorboard. None of that horrible cold laminate rubbish

Depends on the room. Carpet in the bedrooms and family room. TILE (not laminate, what an underclass acheivement) or wooden floors in the dining, kitchen, bathrooms, living room, office (or computer room if you wish) and hallways.

But one thing is a definate: Laminate floor has got to be left on the moon.

We've got carpets in the bedrooms and on the stairs (they were already in when we moved in), but stripped wood floors in the lounge and dining room and tiled kitchen and bathroom. I did the tiling.

I wimped out and voted other. We have mostly hardwood floors, with area carpets in the bedroom and living room. I know carpets trap a lot of crap and aren't good for allergies, but damn, they are nice & warm in the winter, plus I grew up with them, so I am just used to them.

Carpets certainly weren't helping the allergies of my mother nor the asthma of my sister, so we've never had many places where we had the stuff. Currently only have carpet on my eight stair steps to go upstairs (it was that way when I moved in, have no desire to change that little amount of it), plus lots of lovely hardwood floors everywhere else, although the laminate in the kitchen/dining area is a rather plain brown, and could do with a changing of design and color.

Against carpets. I always have prefered wood.

Carpets are like Afghanese montains. You lead an useless war against dirt and the dust still remains alive, ready to attack at any time or fleeing on mopeds as soon as you switch on a Hoover.

And the worst example is a friend of mine who smokes at least 20 joints a day. There are so many holes in his carpets that you wonder which was the original colour of them...

I have carpets, laminate and real wood flooring in my home. I always find laminate the pain to clean though?
