based on the extensive footage i've seen on ESPN classic and highlights when Cricket has been rained off, Barry Richards or Graeme Pollock.

based on my 20 plus years of watching cricket, i'd say Geoof Boycott was shit. it took him 9 hours to score a ton. the game was dead when he was approaching his 50.
and as for Barry Richards. there were plenty better than him. he nver played against the top teams, because of apartheid. Gordon Greenidge, Dessie Haynes, Larry Gomes, richie richrardson etc etc.
Richie Benaud said that Richards was the best batsmen he ever saw. From what i've seen, he was bloody good.
Boycott had his own style. He would never give his wicket away, which far too many people do now. Its not always about having wild slogs, its about knuckling down, wearing out the bowlers and grinding out results. And thats what Boycott did.
Haynes and Richardson were excellent batsmen. Best West Indian: Brian Charles Lara.

Gotta add out of the current lot around Mohammed Yousuf is a fecking good batsman even though he's a Muslim. He will be up there with the greats when he's finished. Kevin Pietersen might hit the top table too, if he can curb his aggression down mebbe 10%.
I used to think Aravinda da Silva was a fantastic batsman to watch, as were Mark Waugh and David Gower in their prime.

Yousuf is a bloody good batsmen. His conversion to Islam was a bit... erm... dodgy shall we say. Since a certain incident in 2001, the Pakistan team has become ultra religious. Saeed Anwar was at the forefront of this, and there is only a few in the squad these days, Shoaib Akhtar is one i think, who are not strict Muslims.
When he converted in 2005, his parents were not happy in the slightest, see here and i remember reading somewhere that he was "persuaded" by the Pakistan team to convert otherwise he wouldnt be selected anymore.
I think only he and his immieduate circle know what really happened. What i know is that he's a bugger to get out.
