End up at Stoke???? He was Potteries through and through!! He even impaled his eyeball on a fencepost just outside Stoke deliberately so that he wouldn't have to ever play for anyone else.

Recall Neville Southall playing for Stoke in the late-90s. I've been to festivals and slept under less fabric than he needed to make his shorts, the big fat bastard.

Fook me - two Worcester connections there!

Ron Baynham started at Worcester before Luton signed him, and Jake Findlay's son Shaun is currently bossing our midfield. And I played against Sir Les once.

  1. Danny McDonnell, the best keeper never to play top flight football. Still, he loves his day job and his family and prefers to be unknown. Should have played at a much higher level, everyone who's seen him play confirms this. At 33 it's now too late.

  2. Paul Moore - nutcase, liability half the time but capable of brilliance. Scouser who thought he was funny (don't they all?) ;)

  3. Melvin Watson - if only he'd learned to shout at his defence he could have been a top professional. Great shot-stopper with a howitzer-like right boot on him, but wouldn't boss his defence. Ever.

  4. Jim Cumbes - probably a better footballer than cricketer, and he weren't bad at cricket!

  5. Simon Jackson - absolutely technically brilliant keeper, but for some reason decided to quit football for an academic career when only 21. Best keeper I ever played with.

What about Packie Bonnar Conrad, he wasn't a bad netminder either.

Alan Knight. Top keeper. Was always on top form whenever i saw him in the eighties either at ewood or fratton. Was at ewood day after 9/11. He came on for his 10 billionth appearence. Ewood gave him a top reception which he acknowledged. Those eighties games i always remember as garner v knight.

Know i'm biased but since he signed for rovers there ain't many better than Brad 'Dog Head' Friedel.

Did anybody actually see Yashin play? I know he's held up as one of the all time greats but how many who have name checked him here actually saw him play?

I'd include the big Russian goalie from the '82 world cup, Dasayev. He was a giant, about 6'7, and he played out his skin in the opening three games (which I saw cos they were in Scotland's group). I

was a goalie up til under 14 level. Alas I wasn't skilled enough to leap the chasm between under 14 and under 17 schools football and had to hang up my gloves at 14 and three quarters. :nonono:

Shilton cost your lot a place in the World Cup Final and was responsible for a few other high profile howlers. If memory serves me right he was still playing at Euro 92 and had a dog of a tournament. Should've been put out to graze a decade earlier. Chris Woods on the other hand was quality (pity he was a dirty Hun though).

Shilton retired at the end of 1990 and had nothing to do with the shambles that was Euro 92.

And the only way Shilton cost England the world cup was by not being particualrly good at saving penalties. If Sir Robert Robson had brought on Big Dave Beasant it might have been a different story. Saying that, Shilton did go the right way for all of the German Penalties...

Yashin is the only ever keeper to have won European Player of the Year though.

Sir Les still shits on him, mind.

I mean, when did you ever see Yashin crack a joke or clown around? Miserable Ruskie! :evil4:

Fuck me:eek: I'm wholeheartedly agreeing with Liam about something. Peter Shilton

England's most capped player with 125 caps to his name, Shilton helped himself to a number of England goalkeeping records during his remarkable career - most matches, sixty-six clean sheets, captain fifteen times and second only in terms of age and length of career to Stanley Matthews. He's also England oldest ever captain, leading the team out at the age of 40 for the Third Place play-off vs. Italy in 1990. He played in the final stages of the World Cup 17 times - a British record - and kept 10 clean sheets, also a record. He went 499 - some say 500 - minutes without conceding a goal, overtaken only by Italy's Walter Zenga.

Chris Woods in the 1978 League Cup final at Wembley for Forest. Shilton was injured. It was nil nil, and he saved absolutely everything from Dalglish & Co. I'll never forget his performance.

Shilton was back for the replay, and we lost.

In Robbo's (Bryan) Autobiography he tells about the time he chinned Shilts in the pub for being a moaning tit..Bit harsh perhaps, but Shilts was never the same after.

What was the scandal surrounding him?

Got caned off some bloke who caught his Mrs with him in the front of a car with Shilts' pants round his ankles?!

Or did I just make that up?

Best keeper in my eyes, and by a considerable distance as well, is Schmeichel. Even in his last season at City he was still be far the best keeper in the Premiership. Crap TV pundit though.

He was huge too. Very off-putting.

Shilton looked relatively tiny for a keeper (was he even over 6ft tall?). I mean, how the fcuk he got out-jumped by Maradona....?!?

Boruc at Sellick looks the real deal. Expect he'll be in the Prem, sooner rather than later.

Would'nt surprise me.One gamble too many. His problem was gambling. He once tried to push infront of us at the flicks,we were not impressed,so me and the mrs took the piss out of his jumper and told him to do one..

We would have took the piss out of his jumper anyway, with it having piglets on it :eek3:

Which ultimately cost you a place in the World Cup Final, like i said!

He had this radical "theory" that he would wait until each penalty had been struck before moving for it. In other words, he wouldn't stick to the normal convention of guessing where it was gonna be placed and diving early. This might have worked had he not have been an overweight, over-the-hill hasbeen. The result? He didn't get near to any of the penalties and Eng-ger-land got fucked out by the Gerries. Again!

I would say its probable that that Pearce and Waddle were a tad more responsible than Shilton was. Shilton didnt cost England the world cup by not being able to save Penalties, the left back and midfielder who couldnt score penalties did that.

Scmeichel without doubt the best of my lifetime. I have a couple of cracking football DVD's copied from my dads old videos called Football, Fussball, Voetball (The history of the European Game 56-96) which features a wee bit on Yashin, he was the dogs bollocks. My earliest memory of the World Cup is '82 with Zoff. Nev was the dogs bollocks, fat as fcuk and drunk like a fish but fcuk me he was immense. As for 5, the fat drunken transvestite flute playing wanker broke my heart more times than any woman has.
