High Street Kensington

anyone familiar with Kensington? i'll be in there for two weeks on business and all the town website is saying is that there is an upcoming free nappy give away, "Get you free pack of real nappies"?! what am I in for?

Kensington used to be Rocky's neighborhood, until it experienced white flight in the '90s. Now Rocky appears to be from South Philly instead.

Unless, that is, there is a Kensington, UK, which I know absolutely nothing about.

The Parents of Kensington won't be interested in a free nappy give away - they leave that kind of thing to the Au pair

Kensington is probably the most posh area of London. Harrods is the local corner shop

Hopefully you're employer hasn't mixed things up and sends you to Kennington, which really could be in Philly

with a Harrods around?, then that's probably the right place, the company is called whole foods market (also owns the UK fresh & wild stores) and they usually build in areas that would have the customer base that would be interested in and could afford all natural and organic foods. sounds like kensington fits the profile. cheers :)

I don't even know who Shack are. just copied it.

shack are ace done about 5 albums - both the head brothers were into their substances a bit so there were huge gaps between them though michael was in the pale fountains as well as the strands

they were really unlucky - typical of the band was this (copied from allmusic) the follow-up, Waterpistol, was recorded in 1991 at London's Star Street Studio, but shortly after the finished disc was mixed the studio burned to the ground, and the completed master was lost in the blaze. By chance producer Chris Allison had made a DAT copy of the album, but unaware of the fire he accidentally left the tape in a rental car while in the U.S.; upon returning to the U.K. and learning of the studio's fate he managed to contact the rental car company and rescue the DAT.

What a crap website!

I lived there for a couple of years (next to the Iraqi embassy ), its the rich part of town but not much going for it really. All the attractions are next door in South Kensington e.g. Royal Albert Hall ( New Order played there in 86, the good old Age of Consent and Sunrise days!) and all the museums and colleges, or Knightsbridge which is where Harrods is. Its on the southwest edge of Hyde Park though which starts to look good at this time of year and is worth a walk through, lots to see in there. All the good nightlife is on the north side of the park in Notting Hill and Queensway, that's just a short walk from Marble Arch and when you get there, you've got to walk the length of Oxford Street... so you won't have an excuse for getting bored.

and The Guardian newspaper (originally the Manchester Guardian, national, liberal newspaper) publicised your visit, kind of, in its G2 section yesterday (Tuesday). Made your company sound like a combination of foodie heaven, massive capitalist operation - $5bn+ tunrover and not as green/ethicla as you like to protray yourselves i.e. 'green' tv dinners miss the point really. Anyway that's ther view - also said the fine people of RBK and C as the lvoal call it will ove what you do - right price range and in right placve - old Barkers sore on HJigh Street Ken.

Other stuff that's good and walkable - go up up kensington church street and you'll end up in Notting Hill and Portobello market - good on a Saturday/sunday. And there's Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens (Peter Pan statue honest) and lots of green spaces...

yer right on with foodie heaven and it is a publicly held company so it's there to make money, no doubt about it. The products we feature are free of artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, sweeteners, and hydrogenated fats. They seek out and promote organically grown foods; as well as, aggressively seeking locally manufactured products and produce to support the community/region around each store. it's been the driving force for the emergence of the natural foods industry into a multi billion dollar marketplace. and the CEO and all of WF management is constantly debating and reviewing it's growth and evolution, publicly.

in regards to the "green" tv dinner - I'd offer that maybe a retailers role is to offer the marketplace the best offerings in each category and give the people what they want; and if people want the convenience of a tv dinner - but it just so happens to be, for example, made with all natural ingredients and free of preservatives - then that's a good thing. Its up to each person and family to choose among the products offered as to what best suits their tastes, lifestyle and diet.

it really is a fascinating company and one of the most pro-employee companies in America; it's been on Fortune magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" for the last 10 years. here is a link to an video interview with the CEO. He started the first WFM in Austin, TX.
