Everyones take on a classic is different!

I don't think the complaint was about people having different takes on what is a classic: I think it was about what is and what isn't "house".

To an old codger like me when you say "house" I think of the style of music that came out of Chicago in the mid-1980's (as opposed to the Detroit techno of roughly the same era) which the British took to and was twisted a few times in the late 1980's and early 1990's before the dance scene split into an ever-growing list of sub-genres, some of which (such as drum 'n' bass) bore little resemblance to any version of house.

To young clubbers today when you say "house" they probably think of the so-called "funky house" that seems to be popular now but sounds like a bunch of Masters At Work-wannabes to me. However, old-style Chicago house was more stripped down than the lusher "funky house" of today.

If ever there is a shagging record that's got to be it. Not that I ever have done to it, but it is amazing!

Agreed as best I can. Few of the 'Specialty nites. Guess around '87- 89. The nights were labelled as Chicago or Detroit. The tunes weren't polished as complete tracks that were in any shops. Might have a harder edge. Dreamy were mixed and could be very smooth. Door was selective and 'though technically underage still got in. Excellent.

you Guys were miles ahead. Not sure if there was much of a Rave scene per se here. Had the Summertime Beach- types off to sides of the err sailing Club an all. Few changin' locations and Warehouse type.. yet mostly just Downtown various.
