i saw the previews. i'm not sure i want to see it. i really liked kill bill 1 and 2 though.

Everything I have seen in regards to Quentin's work has been freekin excellent. The guy is a mad genius. Plus, this movie is supposed to be cheesy.. but taking a different spin on the old-time stuff. I like that. Its very different and seems better than most everything else that's out in the theaters now. The more crazy and graphic, the better, too. :p

Errr...no, Tarantino is vastly overrated. His part of this movie ranks as amongst the worst thing he's ever done.

First half was really good, second half...not so much. Too much Rosario Dawson and her twatwit friends yammering, not enough menacing by Kurt Russell and his car.

Ended in the right place, however.

Anyone else annoyed that they had to miss the "Coming Attractions" during the intermish because they had to take a piss?

The Coming Attractions in the middle are one of the best parts!

I like Tarentino and all, but I'll wait for this one to come out on DVD.

saw it yesterday and though it was great. it was just a fun movie, well two fun movies and 4 fun trailers

It's a fun as hell "movie" but Tarantino cheats and doesn't follow thru on the formula. The first half of Death Proof is such a let down after the adrienalin rush before, the actresses are kinda boring, Kurt Russell plays a winking parody of himself, and Death Proof is so disjointed. The second half has better characters and probably the last best non-cgi car chase you will see, and a lot more fun. The end with them smacking the shit out of Russell was too jokey. And to make it all worse Tarantino acts on screen badly in both films, he is way out of place in Planet Terror. In defense of Death Proof it is very refreshing to watch a movie that slows down the pace so much, but was this the place (Kill Bill Vol 2 is much better), and where is the sleeze? Death Proof is mostly a disappointment.

It's funny reading the different opinions, some people don't like the crude over the top "trash" of Planet Terror, and like Death Proof better cause it is "arty-er", more high brow... but wasn't that the fucking point! Planet Terror is so funny. Rodriquez and the others made hilarious laugh out loud stuff in the theme of exploitive juvenile sleazy cinema, which was the point. I loved the loud gasp in the theatre when one trailer showed the girl jumping on the trampoline and the shiny chefs knife surprise!

It's a blast to watch it in a crowded theatre, have a couple beers to put you in the mood even more.

Yeah, I pretty much agree on Death Proof. Anyone who claims that Tarantino's is more "artsy" had best unfuck themselves. Had Tarantino spent more time making his dialogue actually sound interesting, the chatty scenes could've worked. Having seen a more than reasonably healthy dose of actual grindhouse films, I must say they rarely have that kind of chatter, and even when they do move slowly, there is often something else going on to make them interesting. Apart from a few choice moments, he basically abandoned the hilariously degraded look and gratuitous sleaze of Planet Terror. Besides, where were the tits in both movies? They were both sorely lacking in T&A quotient. At least Rob Zombie knows how to make disgustingly uncomfortable mixes of sex and violence. The car chase in Death Proof made it worthwhile, but only just barely. Kurt Russell blatantly overacting at the end is hilarious. If Tarantino had gone more in a Russ Meyer direction, it could've been great, but instead it's another example of just how overrated he is.

For more proof, I STRONGLY recommend finding the Japanese samurai movie "Lady Snowblood," a far superior movie from which Tarantino basically stole all of Kill Bill.

I just saw Grindhouse today. "Planet terror" had enough T and A in it, especially with the blatant shots of Fergie's boobs in a white tank top toward the beginning and most of the time when Rose McGowan was on screen. Tarantino seemed to have been taking himself too seriously, and the ending seemed out of place with the rest of his movie.
