First Life On Mars, now this? And they say "Gene Hunt" is being used as rhyming slang already.

I'd love it to be true, to turn out that there is another planet that can support life. Maybe then we'd have somewhere to dump all the immigrants that currently populate the street corners of every town in Kent! ![]()
Maybe send some clever engineers and scientists out there to build a utopia for the crème de la crème of humans, then shuttle them out and let the earth become a wasteland?
I swear I got that from a cartoon episode. Hallowe'en Simpsons?

Unlikely. With next year being Liverpools (ahem) Capital of Culture, they'll most likely ship anyone without a job up there.

Doesn't have the ring of a Rigel V or Sigma Draconis does it? 586 would have had potential though.. ![]()

Or maybe you could move there with all the other racists who pollute this country.

Ah, but think what a wonderful life their great-great-great-great-great granchildren will have.

In Bladerunner, isn't the earth reserved mostly for criminals and the scum of the earth, while the elite and such moved to off world colonies?
If I'm wrong, I suspect Campbo will correct me. And by the way, happy birthday Campbo! ![]()
Fisrtly, bladerunner depresses me no end, so I cannot comment on this sceptred orb, and it's purpose therein.
With respect to Earth-like planets......
There HAVE to be some, there are 400 billion suns in our (quite modestly sized) local galaxy, even the national lottery has worse odds than that.
Mind you this new planet's hardly home from home, it orbits a red dwarf, so it's cold and red looking, and it's only just inside the liquid water zone. Of course, that assumes water is the onlt suitable liquid for organic processes, but amonia, among others, would also do quite nicely.
As for man's moving out there? Well, we HAVE too...the envirotards can protest all they like, and Bono can make shite songs about it, but this planet IS doomed, fact....no matter how many Toyota Prius' we buy, 5 billion years from now.....small blackened crisp, F A C T !
(weridly, the last 2 pages or so of "the time machine" by H G Wells, perfectly descrive Earth's death throes.....long before it's fate was worked out by science.)
Having said that, when I think of the CURRENT human race making it beyond this tiny blue cradle, I can only think of what the 10th me said to the prime minister......
"I gave them the wrong warning, I should have told them to run, to run away and hide, because the monsters are coming, the human race!!".
Current humanity would be about 1 rung down from the Daleks in terms of being a galactic scurge.
"howdy y'all, we're from Earth and we brought you the word of Jesus in return for this worthless black organic sludge under your ground. Oh you don't want us to dig it up? well that's a shame, cos that means you're terrorists....boys, it's carpet bombing time!!!!!!!!" And in the real universe there would be no handy TimeLord to save them.

No, that was in England ![]()
