As I'm really interested in doing it in 2008 has anyone ever done the London marathon. In particular what are the procedures for entry/sponsorship, what sort of training regime should I expect in order to get myself in shape - by my own admission I'm nowhere near that at the moment and should I consider entering some half marathons/12k's as a warm up. Any information would be appreciated thanks:thumb: Cheers!:thumb:

I'm actually doing this next year. I trained for a year in 2004 and was due to take part in 2005 but could not because of personal circumstances. My family have convinced me to go for this again and I've just started training which really hurts at the moment and my diet has all changed etc. If you give me a PM or e-mail me i'll give you some more information and details on how to participate, training etc.

My Brother did it this year.

I went down to watch it, fuck me it looks hard, the end was just full of bodies on the ground collasped from exhaustion or being carried about by St johns ambumlance folk.

The Entry forms for next year will be out in August or September. In running or fitness mags or via a google I guess.

Send it off with your £25 entry (probably gone up now) and all entries go into a lottery.

If unsuccessful they send your cheque back, unless you've offered to donate it and then you get to go into a second lottery.

I did this for 10 years from 1992 and never got a place.

If you don't get a place you'll be bombarded with mail from every charity under the sun offering you a certain place if you raise a minimum of something like £1500

It's on my birthday next year :brow:

Gotta agree with John on this. Anyone who thinks running 26 miles as fast as they can must be mad! And extremely fit!

When I was younger we used to follow my Dad round the country, he participated in nearly every marathon going.

The nearest I got was a couple of years ago when I did the Great North run for Charidee (alas only a half marathon).

I really enjoyed it and for about six months leading up to it my fitness was the best it's ever been.

I would love to do the London, or even New York Marathon.

Next year, I'd like to get completely pumped full of drugs and watch it on the telly in an expensive hotel room.

And no fucking Snickers :nono:

There's the hard way, then there's the Biginoil way.

Cheers for the info Dave/Jem and others. I know it's gonna be pretty tough and at the moment my fitness is absolutely s***e but I'd just love to finish and achieve something I've personally said I'd like to do but if I don't do it now I probably never will. Also I can get myself more motivated and fit in the process Cheers!:thumb:

Done it twice... But never again!

Start training now- Make 6 milers you're average around twice a week with a 10 miler every other month and a 15 miler a month before the big day!

... oh and wear Fancy Dress, you're practically guaranteed to get on't telly!

... and make battered people like Biggy laugh when they're watching it by doing silly runs.:thumb:

I ran long distance in high school, was ranked nationally, and had a scholorship to Berkeley........but still I think the marathon is just too damn long.....about 19 miles too long.:nonono:

Think we should do it next year!!! Mind you - I never run anywhere but suppose I could practice!!! We should have a NOOL girls entry. Money could be made by bets on who will collapse first - mine would be on Me!!!
