I could not believe this...

I bought the tickets to see Modest Mouse at Greensboro Coliseum when they were first sold on March 24th. The concert starts at 7:30 tonight. I thought that my best friend would like to go, but found out at the last minute that he couldn't make it. Now, I'm going to miss the gig because I don't have a car. :(

There is no bus from my town to Greensboro, going alone by Greyhound is risky, and a taxicab will be expensive. Greensboro is one hour away from where I am.

I just received an email from Comrade. Again, I worded my post wrong, therefore causing unnecessary confusion. Here are the clarifications:

1. The tickets were on sale on March 24th, and I purchased them on the Internet

2. I was deciding who I should go to the concert with because I had no way to get to the venue. A couple of weeks ago, I heard that my best friend will be deployed to start his training to be a military policeman. Since the deployment is two weeks before the concert and that he is my best friend, I thought that it would be cool for him to have a smashing night at the Modest Mouse gig before leaving for 18 months of training.

3. I PMed him on April 25th, and he said that he would love to go. To paraphrase, "HHHHHHHEEEELLLLLL YYYYYYYYEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH! I want to go see Modest Mouse!"

4. I PMed him again to make arrangements as to what time he would pick me up from my dorm. This was on May 1st. That was when he said, "Friday? I thought the concert is on Saturday. Let me check the schedule."

5. It turned out that he had a date planned tonight. Even if he changed the days to make it to the concert, he didn't want to stand his girlfriend up. I found this out last night, to my dismay.

PS: Just to let you guys know that Comrade knows about my best friend (I have known the latter since first grade) and that he's fine with me going to the "concert" with him. Commie also reminded me that I did a very nice thing to have my friend go see Modest Mouse before he leaves for his training.

6. I felt like crap today, and I didn't feel well enough to call other friends to see if they would want to go to the concert with me and if they have a car.

The fact that your 95 year old boyfriend will let you go to a concert 3000 miles away from him with a friend of yours does let me know that you're not being completely brainwashed...tho if you were free, you'd have gone no matter what he though because 1) he's 105 2) he's across the country 3) this is way creepy.

Take a lesson from his book and go away until you can become less creepy and less annoying

That's only the suburban part of the American population. I'm not sure about where Cozzie lives - because I have no interest to go down to the South - but in American cities, most of us are too poor to own a car and pay for insurance. Hence, we get wonderful public transportation systems like SEPTA.

I live in NC. Here's the thing. I could have had a car, but the money that Mom tried to save for my car was spent on my dad's non-stop drinking and smoking (he quit both after he had a heart attack). The insurance for my age group is ridiculous. I ride the bus to get around campus and downtown in Chapel Hill because the city transportation is free. I could have taken a Greyhound and ride a cab on the way to Greensboro, but it would cost me money. Plus, what would happen if I had to stay at a hotel in Greensboro? It's easier to have a friend to go with; sadly, that wasn't the situation last night.

Fuck's sake, Cozzie! What's wrong with spending cash to go to a gig? In the summer, I'm going to see Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne and the Rolling Stones playing far away from me. I have to spend money to go, but I don't mind as I love them.
