no contest. Sunday by a long way. Looks a good bill for Sunday, wouldn't mind seeing some of them myself.

Smashing pumpkins, but that's if they're really going to be there. Weren't they supposed to headline Coachella last year?

yeah i'd go with the smashing pumpkins and the rest of the line up on the first day listed. it'd be nice if they'd play some stuff from siamese dream...too..you know..

Arctic Monkeys are good live, so are Placebo. Amy Winehouse is very good, and I quite like Paolo Nutini as well.

I think SP would be awesome live if Billy Corgan sung decent live. The instrumentation is generally good, but his singing is always extremely off key that is ruins the song, no matter how well he nails the guitar solos.

I don't know, I think the instrumentation was never quite on since Corigan and the others liked playing different "versions" of their songs live. Sometimes it worked, but many times it just sounded as if the band hadn't played with each other for awhile and were trying to play something new. Doesn't help that Corigan would scream instead of singing, and he takes his voice WAY too seriously, even when it never was much of a voice to begin with.

SP will always be one of the best studio bands, but it stops there.

nick - you should check out stars - they started out as a band inspired by new order but they've come a long way - you probably already know about them though - being as they are based in montreal though, right?

I agree with you about the versions bit. For the Machina tour, they had about five different versions of "Blue Skies Bring Tears," and used an alternate of Bullets with Butterfly wings. And, there were the differences between electric and accoustic versions. I think that Corgan and Chamberlin both seem to have no problem playing the alternate versions, but because they're far superior musicians to Iha and D'Arcy live (who knows who played the rhythm and bass guitar parts in the studio), they just left Iha and D'Arcy in the dust.

The screaming and off key singing of lyrics is also annying, too. I don't know if, during the '90's, any of your local TV stations played a show called On Tour, which showed live clips of bands playing on their most recent concert tours. I remember, back in 1997, watching a clip of SP during the Mellon Collie tour do "Porcelina of the vast oceans" and the song was totally spoiled by Corgan's vocals. It was practically unlistenable. And a "slower", "softer" song like that doesn't work with awful vocals. Unless the vocals are in tune (have you ever heard Martin Gore sing "The Things you said" off key?), the song is torture to listen to.

I didn't know the Pumpkins were back together, to be honest. Personally, I'd choose 8 September, just for them. Like you say, a lot of bands you've (or I've) never heard of, so you've got to ask which is your favorite band in the list and for me it's the Pumpkins.

There hasn't been as much buzz on the internet about the reformed SP as there was for Zwan and Corgan's solo album. I kind of think it's a hoax. If you remember, they were also headlining a day at Coachella last year, but obviously, that never happened.

I went to see them during the Mellon Collie tour, has to be the worst spent money I ever did for a concert. SP before the concert was my second favorite band, coming out my opinion was drastically changed....for the worst obviously. None of the songs were the original versions, even 1979 was some strange mix that was horrible. Corigan had the audacity to scream into the microphone "these are different versions because we are tired of playing the same ones over and over, if you don't like it, too bad". I can feel his pain for playing the sme song over and over, but come on, the album barely came out, and I spent a good bit of cash on the ticket, t-shirt and crap. Not to mention, I hate remixes of songs that obviously shouldn't be tampered with.
