Neither whatsover. Quirky American Indie Rock. Modest Mouse is a band past their best years with much more mainstream production now, but hell Marr should have fun if he wants, why not he can do what he feels like, he doesn't like to tread the same trail over and over like most.
Sure, give Modest Mouse a try. "Sail On" from their previous album is their most accessible hit, a fine left field pop song. Moon and Antarctica (2000) is considered their best overall album it seems.
Always thought they sound like Talking Heads + Oingo Biongo + Smashing Pumpkins' "Mellon Collie" + They Might Be Giants
But not quite as good as any of those groups....
But Sail On is a great song
