The rules are the same whether you're dealing with your Girlfriend's Mum or a murderous terrorist:

  1. Manners maketh the man.

  2. People are more interested in talking about their interests than they are in listening to yours.

  3. Flattery may further your aims, but will not get you everywhere.

  4. If the man with the AK wants his boabie polishing, polish his boabie. You can get more pride from somewhere, you'll never grow another head.

Welcome back, Alan :thumb:

Dunno, but I'm looking forward to his book.... "the Hamas Diet (how to lose 4 stone in under 4 months)"

The BBC now have a new expert to troll out whenever anyone else is kidnapped.

This must be good news for Terry Waite, who is now at an age when he really needs to start taking a back seat in the provision of horses-mouth quotes on being chained to a radiator. John McCarthy should be ashamed - he's hardly ever on the telly these days.

Is the John McCarthy Bar at Hull Uni still named after John McCarthy? If so, it's a fucking disgrace. I'm barred from there anyway, for fighting with the bouncers. They should name the place after me after the pasting I gave one of them.

Great news for Alan, sorry that the same ending can't have happened for various other people trying to shed light on dark places and subjects.

Glad he's free, but it's like being in the armed forces in as much as you don't sign up for the job unless you are prepared to accept the risks involved.
