DVD Formats- Help!!

OK, here goes:

I know that DVD formats are region dependent, Region 1 being U.S etc and Region 2 Europe.

But I want to buy a region 1 DVD, "For All mankind", Al Reinert's Documentary about the Apollo project. (Maybe my mid-life crisis is looming as I seem to have returned to my twin teenage obsessions of NewOrder Bootlegs and Moonshots!)

So, the question is, Does anyone know of any "fixes" to turn a Region 2 DVD player into a multi-region DVD player. Would it be better to use my iMac G5 (will it read ALL region DVDs?) and are there convertor programs available to rip R1 DVDs to R2?

Do a google search using the make and model of your dvd player and terms such as region free hack.

It usually is just a matter of of a few simple steps including opening the tray to set it to region 0.

In addition you need to set your dvd player and tv from PAL to auto format to also be able to play NTSC discs. Consult institutions for this. If you are lucky there may be a button on your dvd player to do this. For your tv you probably need to go into the setup menu.

The poor thing is starting to Rot away a bit... Love the sound of my Juno and JX3p... Bought a virtual analogue to replace for live work and it was shite. Where was all the rich sound; the smooth deep bottom end and lush pads? So the VA got the boot and I ended up still lugging the old Rolands around.

I thought that a good clean of switches and sliders might give it a few extra years yet. I'll be sorry to see the old thing go.

If it's gone totally batty, as in, just doing strange things for no reason, then most likely it's the little memcell that's failed. I don't know if Roland are still willing to skin you £80 to replace one, but you CAN do it yourself if you have many screwdrivers and a strong stomach.

We have a 106 and a 60, which is an odd wee beast, sometimes it can sound almost as lush as a Moog, and sometimes it makes that horrid brittle noise that it's too easy to end up with on the 106.

Absolutely true there, old son. But I actually really like the Juno LOUD. It's a 6 BTW, so all solid state circuits with no memchips to go wrong. Probably all dust noise.

I tend to use it for slow arpeggiated basslines, when I'm doing ambient stuff, triggered by my old TR-626. When I first got my Mac and Logic I tried recording the Ju6 in via my Firewire Audio in. And Logic just went "WTF???? Too Loud".

Still prefer it to any VA stuff I've used, except a Virus C a mate lent me. But I can't afford one of those yet...

Would like to use some good "soft" synths and have heard good things about Arturia's Minimoog V clone...

You use/used any stuff that knocks spots off?

The Mini is good. The Modular is better, but it kinda leads you down one of two roads......

1. cyclying presets til you go deaf looking for one that works for your piece and isn't mental.
2. trying to patch from scratch, which goes well for about 5 mins until you think "what happens if I plug this in here?" (and of course you don't need a fire extinquisher on stand by for when you mix up audio and CV lines)....from whence it descends into forbidden planet meets early 70's Dr Who.

I rather like the wee analogue job built into Cubase Sx actually.

Must admit, that until it was presented to me with the words "I spent the kit kitty on this (and some booze and drugs naturally)", I'd never heard of a Juno60, only the 6 and 106. It seems to be a halfway house, no memory, but it would appear to have digital oscilators like the 106, everything else is steam powered. I MUCH prefer it to the 106, it's got a nice filter and it's a bit easier to fine the sweet spot (on a 106, it's "no res no res no res SHRIEEEEEEEK self oscilation" wanker of a thing).

It's hard to judge virtuals as I've only got an Ozone for control and bugger all of them use MIDI NRPN's which is all it can transmit. I'll score myself a decent surface soon, and see if anything compares to my Moog Rogue.
