sorry, but that song sounds far too close to easy listening music for my tastes. two steps away from smooth jazz.
prefer their first album by far. but then again, i'm probably a closet GOFF.
no, it's bland, bland crap! you'll be listening to kenny g next. a lot of cocteau twins stuff seems terribly overrated and wholly unremarkable. try comparing that song to virtually any track from superior albums like Garlands and Heaven or Las Vegas. no comparison in my mind.
Evangeline was slightly bland i agree , its alright though.This is more their genius , Musette And Drums live on The Tube 1983.Think this was the first time i ever saw and heard them.Recall watching hypnotized
After a few albums, you couldn't even tell the songs apart, sort of like a bland Goth-lite Celine Dion making elevator music for faghags and old female Goths who grew too old for The Cure and thought Depeche Mode was getting too house-y.
Does she just make up words as she goes along? I hope so, cause it is hard to believe she actually wrote those lyrics.

has anyone heard any of herold budd and robin guthrie's stuff? I just got two of theirs but haven't listened to them yet. Looking forward to it though. Robin 's Continental album was just so so....
Haven't got a particular favourite album.They're all brilliant.Gobsmacked that they were on The Tube though! Musette's one of my favourites.
Spent many a night back after a session back to the bachelor pad and play bass to Victorialand,'cause it was Raymonde-less. Fook I'm a brilliant bass player......I think. 
Both bliss and piss in equal measures.
Can only handle them in small doses these days, before they start to get too samey.

Why do people always think Song To The Siren is Cocteau Twins? Its no more them than Massive Attack's Teardrop.
If someone hasn't really heard much by them though a good starting place is Stars and Topsoil although its pretty hard to get nowdays. Didn't they do the re-issue thing last year?

"Stars and Topsoil" didn;'t get reissued, but they did re-master & reissue the rest of their back catalogue (or at least the 4AD albums). An even better starting point is the 4-disc "Lullabies to Violaine" collection: niiiiice.....
More people are familiar with Robin & Liz's version of "Song..." than Buckley's, I guess, but you're quite right: it AIN'T the Coc's (it's, er, Robin & Liz masquerading udner the This Mortal Coil banner). And as for "Teardrop": if that had come out as a Cocteau's single I don't suppose anyone would have blinked - even the video was very 'them'. But - sighs - if it had been a Cocteaus tune it would have been dismissed as airy-fairy past-it new-age sub-goth piffle rather than the minor classic that it is.

I did state 'This Mortal Coil' I was telling customers who it was by in 1987 when it was featured on an advert Steve. Oh dear, it will just end in tears...

the 4 disc set was rather limited, nice though (lovely textured sleeve).
was then re-released as two two cd sets.
