My brother is considering moving and getting a job there (he's a specialist in environmental trade, in Canada he's ahead of its time, but not in London)
He asked me to ask her if it's doable to get a place to stay for 5 persons (wife and 3 kids, 10, 3 and 1), his job would be near station Marylebone and he doesn't want to travel 2h per day...
So must be kind of affordable, but still a safe neighbourhood.

One person's "affordable" is another person's "no chance" so it's difficult to recommend certain areas without an idea of budget. London is a ridiculously expensive both to own and rent. It's also a lot safer than you may suspect, everywhere all over the world has its wankers, but you do pay a lot more for "better" areas, and for proximity to travel stations.
Given that Marylebone is a mainline station, you can get a decent distance away from London in only 30 minutes, so it needn't be a two hour commute each day.

Not sure what affordable is, but theres a suburban leafy ring around London, which is normally about 25 minutes on the train. Where I live, you could rent a suitable house for £1000-£1500 a month. And its fairly safe, crime free etc.

Whereabouts in Marylebone? I work in Marylebone.
As Tim says, it's a Mainline station, although a noddy one at that. It services Bucks and Berks in the main. Paddington is also a stone's throw away and that services most of West London and beyond. To be honest, everything's a much of a muchness in London travel-wise. I work with people from all over and we all give ourselves an hour to get into the office. I live in Norf London and the best time I could possibly do it on public transport is 45mins tops, and it's only 5.5 miles door to door! People can get in from Surrey and Kent in a similar time!
Really though, he should try and actually live in London itself if he's got the budget, if only for the experience. No point in flying in from a foreign country and then just living in the 'burbs.
Well, affordable is the word here... let's say his current rent is 900$ (so £450), but we all know that the cost of life and salaries in Montreal are very different to London... meaning you'll get paid for the rent over there, as some of you might think our rents are ridiculous ;)
So Tim is right, affordable is not evident to discuss, maybe with the job he would get £1000 is affordable, I really can't say... 
but right now let's assume in the middle, so around, £750?
But then again, we pay so much income taxes around here, it's difficult to give a number, but I'll transmit all answers ;)

His point is actually getting experience to get back here when things will kick in, so 2 or 3 years probably.
To quote my original post, 450 quid is a pretty high rent over here, so don't find it too cheap :p of course we're not at all in the rates of NYC and London, you can get a pretty decent condo in Montreal for 500 to 800 quid.

I think you're asking the wrong question, Nicos - you should be asking which year she got her mortgage in! 
I've recently bought a couple of gaffs thirty miles outside London and even though I got 20% off both and put down big deposits and have got interest only mortgages on a specially discounted introductory rate each mortgage is nearly twice Maria's!!

Nah Al's right, i got my mortgage back in 2001 just before the prices leapt up .You won't get anything for £300 a month now.

You won't get owt worth having for £750 a month for 5 people to live in!
I kinda suspected it to be honest, seems that everything in London is costing twice the price as here (and, well, the money is also worth the double!)
But as I said, the salary should follow that rule as well, so he better be prepared that having 50% more salary in London is not really a raise ;)
But you do pay lot of less taxes than Canadians, right?

you won't get nowt for £750. I'm currently looking at moving, and it will cost that to rent a good two bedroom place.
Taxes? Well we moan like everyone else at taxes; as a very rough guide, depending on levels of earnings, income tax/national insurance is generally 30-40%, on a sliding scale, council tax is up to a £1000 a year on top, plus utilities, TV licence etc. And they love to clobber the motorist over here, with much higher fuel costs, and a constant speeding/parking fine battle, i.e. basically a stealth tax.

Yep , yer not wrong there , Nick.We're the poor relation of the area .Leamington , Warwick and Stratford Upon Avon are nearby , all way upmarket from this manor
