I think it's just one of the stage lights behind his head.
The angle that the photo is taken from, relative to the light and the drummer's head, make it appear that they are actually connected.
There is another light in the photo, near one of the cymbals. This one is attached to Sarge's head, to help him to see well enough to locate and control potential troublemakers.

It is indeed reasonable to assume that it is simply a light glowing from behind the drummer's head. However,upon closer inspection i have concluded that Steve has infact found gainfull employment with the AA. There,I think that clears that one up.
