I don't know, but just because he made a movie and flew around promoting it...does that really qualify? I mean I think there are more important individuals (like, ummm, scientists) that have contributed more to the global warming awareness.....I think he's wearing laurels while riding on others shoulders....Not to mention I think we already knew about global warming before he took the stage...

gore may not be a scientist, but he has done a great deal for awareness of global warming. it's been his main project since the 1970s.

So Gore had an alarmist documentary and this helped promote world peace in what way?
Just a political statement against the Bush administration, and well, why not.
But just shows how silly the award is, almost as meaningless as the Amercian Music Grammys.
Everyone knows the peace prize is daft. Never mind Arafat, Begin got it as well. And De Klerk. And most absurdly of all, the friend of fascists and torturers everywhere, Henry Kissenger, famously got it (I think it was Tom Leherer who called that day "the day when satire died").
A good way to get it seems to be to be an utter bastard for decades, then when the game is up, stop being quite such a bastard and retire. Probably whoever is currently running Burma will one day get it. Dubya probably won't, unless he suspends democracy and rules the US via jackbooted bullboys for a few decades and then steps down to a lucrative retirement - then he'd get it, probably shared with Osama.
Oh yea, and almost as silly as the peace prize is the prize for economics, which pretends to be a nobel prize but isn't, and for decades was awarded pretty much by one guy, who always gave it to right-wing neo-classical school Americans.
The literature prize doesn't have a very good reputation either, come to think of it, favouring obscure Swedes over anyone who has the temerity to be popular.

Are you sure? Are you not mixing it up with the Time Magazine 'man of the year' thing? Unless nominations can come from anyone, in which case it doesn't mean much.

nope. they were nominated for the nobel peace prize, believe it or not. hitler for making 'peace' with chamberlain and stalin for his efforts in ending WWII.

I Have put together a movie and despite my previous failed run for president of a country who does not give a flying fuck concerning global warming, it may now help in my new potential presidential run campaign....Nobel piece prize winner against global war tyrant...you never know?
