what's the saddest (or most depressing) film you've ever seen?

breaking the waves. i was depressed for about a week after.

too many to count, but one I was thinking about the other day is a really good independent film called Chain. highly recommended if you hate capitalism.

The original French/Belgian version of 'The Vanishing' has a fantastically depressing ending.

I agree with LLV, I love that movie, but can't really get myself to watch it again (good soundtrack though...Sting actually does listenable music on it, but they could have cut the dialoge of the movie out of it).

for weeks i couldn't stand the sight of alcohol after seeing leaving las vegas.

And entirely worth it to hear Richard Burton deliver that coldest, hardest, most awful of lines....

I agree with you a pretty well put together film and Richard Burton's last film role too boot!

I cried when I saw Philadelphia, as well as Rent.

El Bola, film from spain about a boy who is verbally and physically abused by his father. very sad.
