I'm really shit at Facebook, it baffles me, I can never work out how to respond directly to most things, and there are so many different places for incomming stuff to hide.

I wish to apologize to all my nool facebook friends who send me extremely funny things all the time. I read 'em, I laugh, and I mean to respond, it's just I don't always manage it.

If you haven't had a reply,sorry.

BTW, Edd, the Ralf schumacher "just fuck off" nearly put me in hospital I laughed so hard.

Yeah people keep doing pirate things at me, and every time I try to respond all I get is a page telling me I already have pirates installed....thanks....what about a link to the page where you USE it.

Half baked apps are a plague on facebook, but it's still better than myspace.

Burt, I will specially look for that friend request mate ;)

I agree, dont see why people are interested in Myspace, Bebo, Facebook etc. Ok, i post on forums, but not interested in all this "How many friends have you got?" thing.

Its bollocks, get a life.

I think I want it on a T-shirt.

Seriously though, life will be so dull without ralf to drive into his team mate, or his brother, or half the field, or someone else's pitbox. or for him to scream like a baby over the team radio, or ruin races by holding uo his brother's competitors etc etc etc. Someone will have to hire at least another 2 Japanese drivers to replace him (at least on track, I can't imagine any Japanese acting like him in other ways).

BTW, I finally realised that the only fuckin way to find old friend requests is to actually click on the email link in one, so yous are all confirmified now ;)

Don't you think it's rude when you get a message saying "you;re friend who is more bored than you has sent an invite using yet another potentially dodgy, spamridden app" and the only options it gives are accept and "ignore", how rude, surely "no thank you" or "decline" would be nicer (thanks to el-reg for that little thought)

Am rapidly coming to the conclusion that Facebook is a load of tramp's wank.

What is it for?

At least with Myspace you can stay in touch with a band's activities, early notification of gigs, listen to tracks in full etc, if you're interested in going out to gigs that is. Facebook just seems to be about loads of daft-arse "applications" that serve no purpose IMHO. Am thinking of binning it.

Reckon it could go the same way as Friendster. 20m users in 2003, 1m in 2007.

What JG said.

There's all sorts of weird privacy issues too, that no one realises.

If someone tags you in a picture, all of your friends can see that picture, even the people who don't know the person that posted the pic, and even if the person that posted the pic made them viewable to 'friends only'.

This means that if one of your mates tags a pic of you off your nut, all of your normal friends who you work with get an alert and a helpful link straight to the pic.

So it's shit, basically

Glad to know i'm not the only one who's thinking of kicking it into touch.I have actually deactivated it a couple of times then had a change of mind.I can't access it at work anyway so the idea of it being something to pass the day isn't something i can indulge in and i certainly can't be arsed to play scrabble in my valuable spare time!!!

I've been suspecting the Facebook backlash wouldn't be far around the corner and it seems to be gaining momentum.

Gayspace is more of a networking tool selling yerself to total strangers?! Totally different markets, no? A band can use myspace to get its message across but they'd just be spamming if they attempted summat similar on Facebook.

I very rarely bother with MySpace these days, can't remember the last time I logged in, but Facebook has been very useful for me in catching up with some old mates who I haven't seen for quite a while.

Hmmmmm.........well I seem to be in the minority again; I can't get to grips with Facebook at all.....in fact the only thing I really use it for is email! None of my real world friends use it (they are far too grown up!), so there is little point.........and Jeff is really nasty to me on there too........

Myspace is much more fun! Come across a few erm.......'strange' folk, but on the whole have a good laugh, apart from the bands, most people as my 'friends' are and I can find loads of music too!

(Oh, and people can't throw bombs or poke me! - yes Jeff - that was a direct dig!)

Anyone see the Watchdog feature on 'Social Networking' sites last week.

They used an account to send out unsolicited 'friend' requests. They then showed how, from the personal data shared by those who accepted the request, it was possible to steal enough of that persons identity to be able to set up a bank account or get a credit card without their knowledge.

Depends on A. How much info you fill in on your profile. And B. if you accept every friend request with no idea who it may be.

So essentially, you'll get fucked by this, only if you are exactly the sort of person who gets fucked by 419 scammers, money trees and shite knock off goods from car boot sales.

I once seen (by way of having it shown to me rather than an original find), a guy post his credit card number on an open public forum.

They approached 100 complete strangers for friendship ... and 37 accepted!

Now, I'm sorry, but that's just fcuking ridiculous. I wouldn't accept friendship off a single person I didn't know.

I just scam all my friends details instead! :uhoh: :evil4:

I may have to call bollox on them for that.

I seem to recall having to fill in slightly more than that on most application forms.

Of course if you cross reference such info with that which the government or companies have collected on you and published without your knowledge...........

They implied (without giving exact details, for obvious reasons) that name and DOB were good enough to get your address from the electoral roll website. Armed with the address they then visited 'another site' and were able to get the mortgage application details, including mothers maiden name. May not have been THAT easy, but they suggested it was.

It's not just Facebook, of course. Anyone browsing the personal profiles on message boards like this could potentially do the same.

Getting hold of someone's name and DOB is pretty simple via a lot of means.

I suppose gathering them from the net from people who live far away is preferable to rummaging through your neighbours bins though.

I think Facebook is great - I'm now in contact with lots of friends i had lost touch with through the years - and what's better, I've met up with most of them as a result!

There are a lot of applications that are rubbish, and i've got a rid of a lot that i added initially, but how can any one not love playing scrabble? It's a great game to play with friends, and even my Joe gets involved!

I also like to know what friends are up to - it's quite funny at times, especially when we all have so many different things going on in our lives, gigs, new relationships, dates etc.... It's a great way to keep in touch and it's nice to see how people are getting on (or not as the case may be!) It's also been a good tool in bringing me closer to other friends I didn't see on such a regular basis.

That said, I had requests from people I didn't really know and thought because I saw other friends in their friend list that i must know them - but I don't - and i have deleted some people from my friends list now if they're really not people who are relevant to me.

As for the privacy features - it is a bit dodgy at times, just the other day Missy J and Monty made a comment on a new photo I had posted of me and a friend. He ended up getting an e-mail, in his words "saying some strange woman had commented on our photo" - who actually turned out to be Jem....... but although Jem had posted those comments on my facebook, it had also gone through to his - and that shouldn't really happen. (I denied all knowledge of knowing any strange women)

There are loads of security features on facebook, however i've not used or experimented with all of them - so I think there are ways to limit any privacy issues, if you can be bothered to go through all the proccess.

As with everything - I don't take facebook totally seriously, and although I enjoy coming in at 2 in the morning and sending JG drunk love messages (mushroom) - it's all just a laugh at the end of the day, and nearly all the people I know on there have very active social lives away from it (if anything, it's made things hectic in "the real world" for me, which is nice), myself included - so i beg to differ with those that post here constantly about it being just a tool for "sad" people who feel the need to pretend they have "lots" of friends!

Although, I do have loads!

I'm not sure how effective the "privacy" is on these applications. Apologies to anyone yesterday who was told I wanted to shag them! Yeah, agree with the difference between the two sites and its more that I prefer the music orientation of Myspace to the 'catch-up' benefits of Gayfook ;-). The benefits of Gayfook are slightly overstated unless you have friends you don't see that often and who regularly update their page so you are genuinely keeping in touch. Not sure, already armed with e-mail and mobile phone numbers we really need to have another system which allows us to dropkick each other!.

I guess I need to check out the security features out a bit more. At the moment it feels a bit like being able to read everyone elses private letters.
