What is it for?

At least with Myspace you can stay in touch with a band's activities, early notification of gigs, listen to tracks in full etc, if you're interested in going out to gigs that is. Facebook just seems to be about loads of daft-arse "applications" that serve no purpose IMHO. Am thinking of binning it.

Reckon it could go the same way as Friendster. 20m users in 2003, 1m in 2007.

Is that cos you're 'The Vikings' on gayspace, and just plain old JG on Facebook?! :shades:

Facebook is shirley more of a little catch-up point for friends? Most of the people I'm friends with there I actually know and have an interest in what they're up to. Gayspace is more of a networking tool selling yerself to total strangers?! Totally different markets, no? A band can use myspace to get its message across but they'd just be spamming if they attempted summat similar on Facebook.

Nail on head!

However, both sites are starting to merge, in terms of functionality - i.e. Myspace have seemingly just introduced status updates, and the ability to tag other people in photos...

And Facebook is about to start a music-style profile, similar to Myspace...

Personally, I use Facebook for friends, and Myspace for Music stuff, however tend to use Myspace less nowadays...

:smoking:

Yeah, agree with the difference between the two sites and its more that I prefer the music orientation of Myspace to the 'catch-up' benefits of Gayfook ;-). The benefits of Gayfook are slightly overstated unless you have friends you don't see that often and who regularly update their page so you are genuinely keeping in touch. Not sure, already armed with e-mail and mobile phone numbers we really need to have another system which allows us to dropkick each other!.

I guess I need to check out the security features out a bit more. At the moment it feels a bit like being able to read everyone elses private letters. This week, someone at work commented on the pics from the Monaco weekend! Could do without that really . And all those applications..ffs, there really is a load of old bollox on there to provide entertainment to folk with too much spare time on their hands .

Was chatting with Adam in the boozer last night. Fuck me, Adam's really against it. As he said...'if there's people I haven't been in touch with for 5 years, then there's a good reason for that'

If someone asks me if i'm on myspace or facebook ever again, i think i'll set them on fire.

I don't need to go on some site full of knobhead students to tell me who me mates are:nod:

When you get to our age you tend to have done things like lost touch with people, mates from school, uni, various jobs etc. I've got some people now listed on my friends list on Facebook who I haven't seen for 25 years and may never see again, who live on t'other side of the world now, but it's still good to be able to keep in touch.

I was wondering why I don't see much of Adam anymore. :skeptic:

This means that if one of your mates tags a pic of you off your nut, all of your normal friends who you work with get an alert and a helpful link straight to the pic.
