I think Facebook is great - I'm now in contact with lots of friends i had lost touch with through the years - and what's better, I've met up with most of them as a result!
There are a lot of applications that are rubbish, and i've got a rid of a lot that i added initially, but how can any one not love playing scrabble? It's a great game to play with friends, and even my Joe gets involved!
I also like to know what friends are up to - it's quite funny at times, especially when we all have so many different things going on in our lives, gigs, new relationships, dates etc.... It's a great way to keep in touch and it's nice to see how people are getting on (or not as the case may be!) It's also been a good tool in bringing me closer to other friends I didn't see on such a regular basis.
That said, I had requests from people I didn't really know and thought because I saw other friends in their friend list that i must know them - but I don't - and i have deleted some people from my friends list now if they're really not people who are relevant to me.
As for the privacy features - it is a bit dodgy at times, just the other day Missy J and Monty made a comment on a new photo I had posted of me and a friend. He ended up getting an e-mail, in his words "saying some strange woman had commented on our photo" - who actually turned out to be Jem.......
but although Jem had posted those comments on my facebook, it had also gone through to his - and that shouldn't really happen. (I denied all knowledge of knowing any strange women)
There are loads of security features on facebook, however i've not used or experimented with all of them - so I think there are ways to limit any privacy issues, if you can be bothered to go through all the proccess.
As with everything - I don't take facebook totally seriously, and although I enjoy coming in at 2 in the morning and sending JG drunk love messages (mushroom) - it's all just a laugh at the end of the day, and nearly all the people I know on there have very active social lives away from it (if anything, it's made things hectic in "the real world" for me, which is nice), myself included - so i beg to differ with those that post here constantly about it being just a tool for "sad" people who feel the need to pretend they have "lots" of friends!
Although, I do have loads!
